Sarah Ann Uttley -- 1861-19xx

Sarah Ann Uttley was born in Elmira, Ontario on November 25, 1861. She was the third of seven children and the first daughter of Nathan and Lucinda (nee Randall).

[Bible Entry]

The date comes from two sources. The Births page of the Family Bible reads "Sarah Ann Uttley Nov(br) 25 1861" which agrees with her baptism record below.

Sarah Ann was baptized at St John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Berlin on the same day with her older brother John Robert as recorded in the church records:

   Baptism: Sarah Ann
   Born: Nov 25, 1861
   Baptized: Sept 14, 1862
   Parents: Lucy Uttley
                 Nathan Uttley, farmer Elmira
   Sponsors: Charlotte Linder
                 L[ucy] Uttley
                 Wm Linders
   Priest: E.R. Stinson

Census Records

The Census of 1871 lists Sarah as a girl of age 9. In the 1871 Census John Otley is still there although now it is called Ontario and in the 1881 Census J. Robert Uttley has the occupation of Fireman at age 21.

Marriage Record

Sarah Cook and her husband Robert of Elmira were the witnesses to the marriage of Sarah's sister Mary Jane to Anthony Varley on March 7, 1882 in Hawkesville. We only know Sarah Ann was married before this date. Sarah was again a witness at a marriage when John R. and Catherine Birmingham wed on April 20, 1882 in Elmira.

Death

When her father Nathan died in 1903, his obituary reported that Sarah Ann (Mrs. Cook) was living in Port Huron, Michigan.

When Nathan's second wife, Mary Ann, died on February 17, 1920, the list of survivors included the children from both of Nathan's families. Only Jack [John R.], Diana and William [H.] are listed from the first family. The conclusion must be that Sarah Ann died prior to 1920, probably in Michigan.

COOK -- Cemetary Finding Aid

These records were extracted from the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid site. All records that match (or almost match) the target names Robert and Sarah COOK are listed, from both Version 5 and Version 6 data. A cemetery description comes before the name entries. More "***" after surname indicates more probable hit.

         were wrong.
