Ella Maria Hortop was born at Caldwell, Kansas, August 30, 1875, and departed this life February 28, 1915, at the Flower hospital, Toledo.
She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hortop, who remain to mourn their loss, as well as a large host of relatives and friends. She united with the St. James M. E. church in Toledo in childhood and remained a faithful member until the time of her death. She was a kind and loving daughter, ever planning for the welfare of her father and mother. She has left a vacant place in the home that never can be filled. Her last request before going through the operation which caused her death was "Tell father if I don't come back I will meet him in heaven; it won't be long." The funeral service was held at the M. E. church at Elmore Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock."
Ella Mae Hortop died Sunday Feb 28, in Flower hospital, Toledo, where she had been taken the Thursday previous for an operation for tumor. She seemed to come through the operation finely, but inflammation of the heart developed and she passed away quite suddenly. Her body was brought to Elmore for burial Thursday, Rev. Hodge, of Trinity M.E.church officiating. She was well known here as are also her parents, who remain to mourn her untimely departure. Relatives from Clyde, O., Swanton, O., and Waldron, Mich., attended the funeral. Interment was in Union cemetery.
Her death is in some ways a very sad one. She had always lived at home and was the chief source of comfort to her aged parents. Her sudden death came as as severe shock to both and her mother has been prostrated with grief ever since. Time only can assuage her almost unbearable grief.
