JABRIL IBRAHIM ABDULLE
Jabril was educated in Somalia and Canada . He is the Founder and
former executive director of the Ottawa-Carleton Neighbourhood Coalition for Conflict Resolution, a community-based
non-governmental organization that provides mediation and conflict resolution services in the Ottawa-Carleton region, Canada's National Capital.
Over ten years of experience in the field of social
services, community development and conflict resolution. He acted as a mediator,
administrator and group process facilitator. Through his experience Jabril has participated in over
700 mediation cases involving more than 1000 people and numerous reconciliation and negotiation sessions. He also acted as a race relation/multicultural advisor to various non/governmental and
governmental organizations, such as Ottawa-Carleton
Regional Police, Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and Ottawa-Carleton Housing. He is
currently engaged equity and diversity project in the Ottawa-Carleton region
area.
In
1995, Jabril become one of the
youngest and the first Somali-Canadian political appointee in
Ontario. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Ontario
Trillium Foundation (one of the top twenty foundations in the world) where he was a member
of the Evaluation Committee and the Northern and Eastern Region (Ontario)
Grant Review Committee.
He
Co-Chair Get-Up Stand-Up grant program, a provincial program with a
million-dollar budget. Helped to design and develop the funding
application and its guidelines. This program was intended to help young
people across Ontario to take action on the important issues that effect
their lives and to increase their influence and participation in society.
Jabril
was recently invited by the staff of city of Gothenburg, Sweden to
consult and develop cross-cultural conflict resolution program aimed at
minority communities and local social services officials.
As
a consultant to Secretariat for African Trade Development. Jabril has
developed cross-cultural conflict management workshop focusing on
cross-cultural sensitivity training and Intercultural communication
skills for local African-Canadian community and Canadian
Businessmen/women.
Jabril
is also consultant to Peace Radio project. A
unique and ambitious peacebuilding initiatives partially funded by the
UNDP and three US-based NGOs.

In addition to this Jabril has been involved with the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police (one of the largest police force in Canada) in the development of strategies and appropriate means to dealing with conflict among communities in the region.
