Rationale for Standard 5
Maryland Teacher Technology Standards
The artifact I choose to include for evidence of my understanding of integrating technology into curriculum and instruction was a web quest I created in my Computers in Education class.
I choose to include my web quest for several reasons. First of all, I believe it highlights several of my computer and creative skills. I spent hours working on my web quest for my Computers in Education class. At first I was just going to do my best to get an A on it, however as I worked on it I realized how I could use it in an actual classroom. I was working on a solar system unit for my creative arts class, so I decided to base my web quest on the same topic.
My web quest was designed to take place at the end of a unit on the solar system, however I believe it could be altered into a week long unit with an assessment at the end. Basically, the students are placed into groups with each group studying a different planet. The group has to research the planet and come up with a creative way to teach the class, be it a travel brochure, skit, picture book, etc... I listed as many possible project ideas as I could think of and described what needed to be included. However the students would not be limited to my list, they would be free to present in other formats as long as they had their idea approved by the teacher.
I enjoyed working on the web quest and believe that it truly tested my skills. I had to work through a lot of trial and error in order to get links to work and so forth, but it was work it in the end. I included an assessment at the end with a description of what would be required in order to receive an A.
I believe that this web quest demonstrates my ability to intergrate technology into instruction and assessment in my classroom. As I continue to develop lessons and my teaching philosophies I hope to be able to use technology in a variety of ways.
