Here are some animated backgrounds. The first one is on this page. Don't forget to follow my rules!

To use the transparent animated backgrounds, you include the background=filename.gif as usual, but make sure to include a bgcolor=color choosing a color that is not only compatible with everything else on your page, but which is also compatible with the animation. These were some of my first efforts, and therefore are not perfect. Those with transparent backgrounds will look like this page if no bgcolor command is included in the body tag.
