Hi. Welcome to The Fool on the
Hill's webpage. I'm going to assume that you've at least heard of the BEATLES, otherwise
you wouldn't be on this page. For those of you that did somehow manage to stray onto this
page and don't know who they are, well you are missing out on the rock and roll group that
changed the world. Unfortunatley, I only have 11MB of space here so I don't have the room
to tell you all about them. If you've been hear before though, check out my other pages
and see what's been added.
Let me at least tell that on July 6, 1957 Paul McCartney joined John Lennon's band "The Quarrymen". A short time
later George Harrison was asked to join the group. The name of the band was changed to
"The Beatles" and John , Paul, George, Stu Sutcliffe (bass guitar) and Pete Best
(drums) started playing seedy night clubs in Germany. In 1961 things started to change for
the Beatles; Stu Sutcliffe left the band and Brian Epstein became their manager. Brian got
them an audition for Decca Records.
In 1962 they cut a demo record
for Decca, which was rejected by the company. Brian eventually hit upon George Martin, (a
producer for EMI Records).George Martin made the final change in the Beatles line-up,
replacing Pete Best with Ringo Starr just in time for their first recording session. After
taking England by storm they eventually came over to America were they appeared on
"The Ed Sulliavan Show" in 1964. America and the rest of the world fell in love
with them. The next step was movies, (1964) A HARD DAYS NIGHT, (1965) HELP,
(1967) MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR, (1968) YELLOW SUBMARINE, and in 1969 in
order to comply with the movie deal that they had made (since Yellow Submarine was a
cartoon) LET IT BE.
Unfortunately, as all great
things must THE BEATLES broke up on April 10,1970.
Although it was a bitter
breakup, they did perform on each others solo albums. Ringo's 1973 release of
"RINGO" was the first to include all four former Beatles on one album. But,
while George, Ringo and John worked toghether in Los Angeles, Paul recorded his parts
seperately in London.

1 billion as of May 1985.

- The Beatles hold the record for the group with the most (11).Paul holds the record for
the solo artist with the most gold records with (12).

The Beatles have the most number 1 songs by a group (20).
Most Number 1 Albums
- The Beatles have the most number 1 albums by a group(15).
Most Weeks at Number 1
- "Hey Jude" ranks 10th with 9 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard charts.
World's Most Popular Song
- In 1993 "Yesterday" was confirmed as being the most popular song ever with 6
million airplays in the US alone and by being recorded by more than 2,200 other artists.
Tragically, after just finishing
his comeback album, John Lennon was shot and killed outside his apartment in New York City
on December 8,1980.
In 1995 The Beatles released the
first of a triple double album set "Anthology 1". Using some mixing studio magic
George, Paul and Ringo were able to record "Free as a Bird" using a recording of
John had made earlier. 25 years after they broke up and 15 years after John's death The
Beatles again had a new number 1 release.
Although John is no longer with
us and hopes of a Beatle reunion no longer exist there music lives on in the hearts and
minds of all who have come to listen to it.
At the ages of 5, 7 and 9 my
children are begining to listen to The Beatles and Paul's "Flaming Pie" album.
There favorite movie of all ( and that includes disney movies) is "Yellow
Submarine". I only get to see them every other weekend, but when I am driving them
home on Sunday afternoon we listen to Paul and The Beatles in the car. It brings tears to
my eyes sometimes just listening to them sing along and to watch them play their
"air" guitars in the backseat. My son, Joe's, favorite part is in the song
"Get Back" when Paul sings 'get back Joe Joe'. My daughter, Missy, says her
favorite song is Paul's "The Songs We Were Singing". They are a new generation
of Beatle fans and I am very proud of them.
On September 12th, 1998 I got
married,and my beautiful bride (Lisa) and I danced to the song "In My Life". It
seemed to express the way that we felt about each other and our lives both together and
previously. Of course this song was followed by "When I'm Sixty-Four".
On November 1st, 1998 USA WEEKEND magazine
published an interview with Paul McCartney, which is the first one since his wife Linda
