Ashraf is real world music deeply rooted in the North African tradition. Singer Ashraf, from Tetouan in the North of Morocco is working together with Kees Post and Mohamed el-Fers for his 3rd CD-release. Kees Post arranged the masterpiece by the late King of Yiddish Music Leo Fuld. Listen to The Legend an instrumental produced by Mohamed el-Fers and arranged by Kees Post (released on Hippo Records and presented by Leo Fuld in person to Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands)

Hit: Passport

Zanger Ashraf (Mustafa Loumghari) staat op dit moment midden in de internationale belangstelling met zijn aanstekelijke hit "Passport", geschreven door Cheikh Younci Mohamed. Het nummer beschrijft het leven van een migrant. De uit Berkan (Marokkaans Rifgebergte) afkomstige Younci Mohamed schreef het nummer in de zestiger jaren van de vorige eeuw. Ashraf stak het in een nieuw jasje. Een gouden greep, want in no-time werd "Passport" de grote hit onder de Marokkaanse jeugd.

Ashraf kwam in 1984 uit Marokko naar Nederland. De eerste band waarin hij zong was Noujoum Amsterdam. Op zijn eerste CD Le Mediteranien uit 1997 (MW Records MWCD 3015) combineerde hij Noord-Afrikaanse muziek met salsaritmes en reggae. Nummers als Yenes (Mensen), Je suis mediteranien (Ik ben een Mediteraan) en Elgorba (in het buitenland) bezorgde Ashraf faam als een van de topvertolkers in zijn genre.
