Character: John Sykes
Although John Bolger (Sykes) is at home on television, film and the stage, he feels most comfortable with a canvas and paintbrush. It turns out Bolger earned his college degree not in theater arts but in fine arts! And though he continues to take art classes to this day, it was back when he was a college junior that he created a particular painting which has remained his most prized possession. “It was just the way the light was changing from winter to spring, and by some sort of miracle accident, I happened to do something right,” he says. He still proudly displays the painting in the Long Island home he shares with his wife Christine, and their three children, Maria, Laura and John. “That image still brings back so many wonderful memories for me.” –from Soaps In Depth
With a new OLTL contract, an active theater career, a wife and three children, John Bolger (Sykes) doesn’t have time for much television viewing. But he does cop to a soft spot for a certain sitcom psychiatrist. “Frasier is the only show that I really go out of my way to watch,” says Bolger, who himself has appeared on such primetime series as True Blue and Everything’s Relative. “It’s just brilliant all-around.” Bolger admires not only Frasier’s writing, but also the chemistry between the lead actors. “Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce are the funniest,” he says. “I enjoy watching them because they have such ease with one another. Their characters have an elegant obnoxious absurdity.” And most importantly, he concludes, “The show just really makes me laugh.” -from Soaps In Depth
