Photographs of the genus Alisma

Common water plantain (Alisma subcordatum) is on the left side of this photograph.  In the center of the photograph is common arrowhead (Sagittaria latifolia).  A species similar to common water plantain is large-flowered water plantain (Alisma triviale), which, as the name implies, has larger flowers (more than 4 mm broad versus 3-4 mm broad in common water plantain) and achenes (2.5 mm or more long versus up to 2 mm long in common water plantain).
