Photographs of the genus Claytonia

Spring beauty (Claytonia virginica) is a common spring woodland wildflower.  The five petals are often white, sometimes tinged pink or purple or with pink lines along the white petals.  Two linear leaves grow from the base of the plant.  In the photograph on the right, a spring beauty plant is surrounded by several purple spring cress (Cardamine douglassii) flowers.
