I'm not sure exactly when this interview took place because I taped the replay of the show this summer. I know it took place in early 98' or later in 97.' I finally have it up on my site, so here goes nothin!...
In this interview, Carmen discusses what it's like being on Baywatch along with some other interesting things about herself. Carmen was the second guest on the show with the first being Richard Simmons. Carmen jogs out on stage waving to the audience after Regis introduces her. Then after a greeting from Regis & Kathie Lee, she proceeds to do a little dance. CARMEN: You know I have to come out here and dance a little bit after Richard Simmons. REGIS: Would'nt if be funny if this was really Richard Simmons in a wig? (Carmen laughs) REGIS: Could be! Same kind of moves! (Regis then does a little Carmen dance impression which proves absolutely nobody can dance like Carmen! Then they all three sit down.) REGIS: Nice to see you again. CARMEN: Nice to see you too. KATHIE LEE: You've got some goosebumps going huh? CARMEN: It's a little cold, yeah. I live in L.A. so it's a little warmer out there. REGIS: Have you been to New Orleans before? CARMEN: No, it's my first time. REGIS: Are you enjoying it? CARMEN: I just got here last night, but I can't wait because I love food so I'll have to check out the food and party. KATHIE LEE: You don't love food! CARMEN: I do. Yeah. KATHIE LEE: What's the hardest food for you to say no to? CARMEN: Umm, I'm gonna have to say ice cream, I love hot fudge sundaes. I also like fried foods like fried chicken. KATHIE LEE: Who'd believe so? CARMEN: (pauses momentarily) I workout. Yeah, I workout, I kickbox. REGIS: Yeah, it does'nt show! ( Carmen laughs and gives Regis a little slap on the knee) KATHIE LEE: You keep at it though hunney, you'll see some results. REGIS: Yeah, you'll see some results soon, you just can't quit! CARMEN: I'm going to have to go visit Richard soon! REGIS: So you do kickboxing? CARMEN: Yeah, yeah. REGIS: That's getting quite popular isn't it? CARMEN: It is. Yeah. KATHIE LEE: Tell us some of the people in your class. CARMEN: From Gene Simmons, to Sinbad, Joe from the Facts of Life. I don't know her name so I just call her Joe, and LL Cool J. It's great. I love it! REGIS: And it's a combonation of both punching and kicking at the same time? CARMEN: Yeah, it's like an aerobics class. So they play really good music and we punch and kick. KATHIE LEE: And you just sweat like a pig right? CARMEN: Yeah, I love it! REGIS: Now tell me the truth, can you swim or not? CARMEN: ( smiles and shrugs) No. REGIS: Can you stay afloat? CARMEN: (laughs) I'm not a very good swimmer. KATHIE LEE: She's a wonderful actress. CARMEN: I'm a wonderful floater, I can float very well. REGIS: When you audition for the Baywatch role, do they require to see you swim? CARMEN: Yeah, but I had no idea. So I lied in the audition I said " Yeah I'm a great swimmer, no problem!" So they said "Great, put a swimsuit on, we have a watertank downstairs. Go down and let's see what you can do." So I said a prayer, I said please God let me get through this. And I dove in, and I did all right. I got the job! REGIS: I think you got the job after you put the swimsuit on! CARMEN: Okay. KATHIE LEE: Were'nt you afraid of the ocean even? CARMEN: Yeah. I'm so afraid of it! Especially sharks. One time we were shooting in the middle of the ocean. We got back in the boat, we were there all day. And our stunt coordinator said they just counted 13 sharks swimming around. KATHIE LEE: Well you're in show business, it's full of sharks. CARMEN: No, they said they don't bite. REGIS: She's got the bluest eyes does'nt she? KATHIE LEE: She's gorgeous. CARMEN: ( blushing and smiling) Thank you. REGIS: You know what I love on that show? I love when they run on the beaches. In slow motion. And everything is moving in slow motion. Is that really slow motion? CARMEN: You know we have to look like we're real lifeguards, so we try to run with power like we're really going to save someone. But you also have to be real smooth or everything will start to jiggle. REGIS: Jiggle! I never noticed that! CARMEN: Yeah like your cheeks. REGIS: Can you show us how you do that? CARMEN: Sure. KATHIE LEE: The Baywatch run. CARMEN: Ready? ( Carmen proceeds to run across the stage showing off her wonderful Baywatch run) CARMEN: But you know what? I don't think it would be complete unless Regis demonstrates for us. REGIS: I'll uh....I'll run after you. How's that? ( Carmen laughs) REGIS: Let's do it in slow motion okay Carmen? CARMEN: Okay here we go. REGIS: Gee you've got nice arms. That kickboxing really works! ( Carmen laughs again and they both do a run across the stage, although Regis could use some help) REGIS: Carmen Electra everybody! Thanks so much for coming by! ( Carmen then gets her groove on some more) Then Regis along with Carmen played a game of pictionary against Kathie Lee and Richard Simmons to raise money that would be donated for the Boys and Girls Clubs of New Orleans. |
