Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder The Whirlwind Life |

I first got to know ADHD as MBD 10 years ago through my cousin which suffers from it. But I did not seek any information about it, first of all that it didn't really concern me. My cousin and I lived in different cities, so we did not see each other that often. When my son became 3 years old, I started suspecting that something was wrong. People told me that it was probably just a phase he was going through, but I never accepted that explanation. After fighting for 2 years, he finally got into the system and got diagnosed having ADHD spring 1997. First he got in touch with a science project here in my city, that is an alternate to the standard treatment of ADHD, using diet instead of rithalyn. I feel I do not have enough medical knowledge to explain the long-term benefits using this diet - but I can say that it changed our lifes alot - I will though get more information to add to this page. What is ADHD? There are three main characteristics of ADHD which is hyperacticity, impulsivity and inattentiveness. Hyperacticity: Over activity, the whirlwind-syndrom as I like to call it. Many people may think it is the same as having a high energy level or being energetic, but many energetic people accomplish alot, but hyperactive people often feel and present as being busy but do not accomplish that much. Impulsivity: This is seen when a child acts before thinking or hitting other children or authority figures, running out into the strees, taking apart toys, frequently interrupting and blurting out answers in the class. ADHD children are impulsive with words and actions. These childfren have significant difficulties following rules and waiting their turn. Inattentiveness: Those with ADHD and ADD have significant difficulty paying attention at home and school. These children frequently become frustrated and give up easily. Many times ADHD children become over- stimulated in settings such as school, stores, church, etc. because there is alot of stimuli and they become overwhelmed.
