Caution Dear Poet!

by Georges Rosenmann

Before you be bard of love notions,
Before you stir up her emotions,
Before you rhyme your affections,
Before you point all your passions,

You need to foresee
What really could be:
Your waves of affection
May break her protection,
Create such infection
To cause your rejection.

For once you have launched the tide,
She will not be able to hide.
And if she can't handle the ride,
She will only cast you aside.

On this you can trust me,
For it happened to me.
I loved her so, madly,
And lost her so, sadly.

A word of advice, unless you roll dice:
Don't be a copy - you won't be sorry.
