THE PRISONERS CRY
When they locked me in the corral
And told me I was animal
I said nothing
When they insulted my ancestry
I fumed inside
When they started to use violence
I rose above
Who is animal now?
My hand reached through the bars
And I was told to beg
Should I beg for this life
I did not
They degraded every part of me
And still thought themselves better
They took away my family
They took away my bread
They tried to take away my soul
They tried to make me dead
I clung to myself
My hope and pride
For every time I succeeded
They could only try
