In order to reduce usage of the annoying "New" gif, I have added a new section to my page. Everytime I update this page, all the new quotes will be listed under "New Since Last Time." At that time, I will move all the current New Since Last Time quotes to their appropriate place on the page. Mary, one of my best friends, made me this AMAZING birthday present for my past birthday. The funny thing is, she was afraid it sucked and so she waited for months and months to give it to me. It is now one of my fave possessions! It is a Tori collage in the shape of a butterfly. ("Is it right, butterfly, they like you better framed and dried...") Well, now that I use Seattle Filmworks, I have the wonderful option of getting my photos on disk as well as the traditional prints. But, of course, I am not the best photographer. However, I took two pictures of this butterfly so that I could put them on my page. One came out dark and icky (and kinda slimy-looking!), the other with a horrible glare, and neither shows a lot of detail, but, so that you can get the idea, here they are:

Buy Tori-Related Art and Help RAINN and Other Causes!
There are many lucky people who are very talented artistically and who use their talent to benefit humanity and the Toriphile community. This section of my page is meant to alert you to these opportunities. When I first had this idea (January 1998), it contained only artwork, but I am sure that at some point there will be SOMETHING else that comes along and will be included here. To see a bigger, better image of each picture, click on the picture. To get more information on the piece, the charity, and how to order, click the text link.

Tori Amos RAINN Lithograph This beautiful drawing of the famous Tori-in-RAINN-tee-shirt photo is amazing! I always loved that photo and sought desperately to get my hands on it, and now I can own a litho of it and benefit RAINN while doing so! $19.95 plus $3.95 shipping/20" X 24"

Bob Masse's "My Siren" Poster Bob Masse is a very renowned concert poster creator, and his Tori posters are always very popular. This one, called "My Siren," benefits RAINN as some of the money from the posters will be donated. $30 a print/14" X 24"

Pauline Stuckey's Tori Prints Pauline Stuckey is a fabulous artist who gave Tori a book of art that greatly moved Tori, so much, in fact, that she arranged to have Pauline involved in the artwork for the "Bee Sides" piano book. She has four Tori prints that are available. The one on the left is called "A Message from Jupiter." The money goes to OSPCA (Ontario Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). $13 for 2 prints, $24 for all 4/12" X 15" to 16"

On July 29, 1997, I bought this really really great CD, and I recommend it for all Tori fans. It is the new interview CD, "The Unauthorized Edition." I can't really tell, but I think it is put out by Westwood One. If you look around, you will find a record store good enough to carry it. I have a special quotes section designed just for this CD and the GREAT 120-page book that comes with it. Click on "Interview CD" on the navigator to read some quotes from it.

NEWLY ADDED TV APPEARANCES

NEWLY ADDED TORI TALKS ABOUT STUFF

"I talked to alot of people today. We all pretty much had the same thing on our mind....this is for a boy in Wyoming..." - Tori quote [in reference to Matthew Shepard]from the Oct 17 Baltimore, MD concert. Tori said this prior to singing "Merman;" quote and info from The Dent

"Orchards are simple. A peach tree says, 'Some of me will be juicy and some of me will be dry I'm not growing for you; I grow because that's what I do.' You always hear some person complain about how dry their peach is and the peach says, 'It's not our fault you have no understanding on the proper use for dry peaches.' - Tori

I don't think negative emotions is an accurate phrase. Emotions are emotions. We can't look at them as positive or negative, they are what they are. And they are your reality. All you have on your plate is your reality. You decide whether you look at your reality or live pretending these feelings don't exist. The problem is that eventually these feelings become like that alien coming out of [Sigourney Weaver's] stomach. And you're praying Sigourney will walk into the room. - Tori from her E! Online answers to Toriphile questions.

"If you're gonna tell a story, you have to grow into the head of the rapist as well as the raped." - Tori, Chicago Sun Times, July 17, 1998

Most religions are not about humans becoming whole. If people become whole, institutions fear they won't need them anymore. And, of course, it should always be the wish of a master teacher that the students will surpass him or her. The sad thing is we don't have a lot of master teachers. Master teachers have to be willing to devote their lives to consciousness. This is a very courageous journey not many people have been willing to take. - Tori from E! Online.

Obviously, if you use the English language right, you can pack a good punch. You can get people to see something in a way they didn't want to--or weren't willing to. I see myself as a librarian in high heels, and I'm becoming more comfortable with that. The man I'm with has really made me want to discover more about my womanhood. - Tori from E! Online.

The meaning of life is bran in your diet. I'm going to eat pasta now. - Tori from E! Online.

"The love didn't go away, and that was the beauty. I mean, that was the gift from the baby, from the spirit of the baby. And I feel her presence now sometimes, you know, I really do; and I see life completely different because of what she's taught me. And, as always, the songs come. When nothing makes sense, music seems to come and bring me a marguerita and sit down with me, and that's how we started writing this record." - Tori from an interview she did for MuchMusic on July 25,1998.

"If you call me an airy-fairy new age hippy waif, I will cut your penis off." - Tori Amos

"If I couldn't play, I've no idea what kind of bitter person I would've become. Because that's where I was able to express some kind of freedom without guilt. Guilt for passion." - Tori Amos, Rolling Stone, June 30, 1994

"I believe in energy, everything is energy. And therefore sometimes magic can be created if somebody is open to letting energy do what it does, instead of being so cynical, that you miss magic happening." - Tori Amos

"I feel like a work really has many sides to it when people have such extreme reactions. When a work is greeted with just, 'Oh, you know, it's nice', then it's not affecting people. So love it or hate it, that's okay. That's exciting to me. If you wanted music for your dog to do something on, hey, it's paper, too." - Tori Amos

"I heard stories that they brought in this henchman from France, and I really aligned with him. He had Anne [Boleyn] move her hair over [before the execution] and he made her look away. He did it when she didn't know. Even though his job was a bit brutal, he had more compassion than the king. The riddle in 'Talula' is things are not what they seem." - Tori

"I am a real believer in looking at pain and taking it out shopping." - Tori

"I had pizza and she gave me bad gas...so I said take her off the album." A thought on the B-side "Honey," Tori, Plugged '98 Tour, Core States Center 7/29/98

"There's a thread of my life running through the songs, but it's a tiny little thread. The songs never let me forget that." - Tori, New York Times, April 23, 1998

"I usually get along best with the metal guys...the real, real subversives. I don't know, maybe it's because our paths don't cross much, but I think there's a passion there." - Tori, B-Side Magazine, April/May 1994

"I hated my name. My body was screaming to be called something, and it wasn't Myra Ellen." - Tori

"Fame is very tricky. It's like a pit full of stuff, some of it is yummy and some it is big monsters. It's a double-edged sword and if you pretend you don't want it you're a liar and that is going to rip your soul to pieces." - Tori, Attitude Magazine, 5/98

"I'm always dreaming that these bulls are chasing me. Half the time I don't get away - I almost get over the fence, and then they gore me." - Tori, Entertainment Weekly, 6/98

"My theory is that women were the Mona Lisas for a long time and now men are Mona Lisas with little goatees. They are our muses." - Tori

"I think you have to know who you are, get to know the monster that lives in your soul, dive deep into your soul and explore it. I don't want to renounce my dark side. The truth has always held an enormous interest for me. Everything is therapeutic, no matter what you do." - Tori, Connection Magazine, 6/98

"Just because I can't write songs sometimes doesn't mean that creative force isn't going. It's cheating on me. It's with Jewel." - Tori, Scene, July 16-22, 1998

"I talk to a lot of strangers through my music. But it's not like I sit down with everybody and have spaghetti afterwards." - Tori, CNN Online, 8/27/98

"Most boys would like to think they're the flu, wouldn't they? But they're really just a...hachoo." - Tori

NEWLY ADDED OTHER PEOPLE TALK ABOUT TORI

NEWLY ADDED FROM INTERVIEW CD

And now for the great but slightly older stuff!!

QUOTES FROM TORI ON YAHOO! CHAT
On April 13, 1998, Tori chatted on Yahoo! Chat for one hour. I was there. It was amazing. Here are some responses she had to some of the questions that were asked:

"It [classical training] always underlies what I do, on some level, but I"m not trying to repeat what any of the masters have done. They did it in a way that can't be repeated... and that music was a reflection of that time. That music is not a reflection of this time... It was written before airplanes were invented. It was written before women could be pregnant, single and run their own business."

what is the signifigance of the title of the new album? "I wanted a space for these girls metaphorically to be in. There will be a map, as part of the artwork. It gets you a taste of the world they were taking me into when they came to visit me. These girls seemed much more independent than others on the other records... Not that being dependent is a negative thing for a song... It just means that when the songs are dependent, you have to be careful how you order the work..."

Tori, if you weren't a musical artist, what do you think you would be? "I think I would have been a sewage specialist. I'm fascinated with where all this waste on the planet is going. It's a parally [typo--parallel?] to music... emotional waste. I will not talk potty talk with anyone, not even Beenie... In 20 years we're gonna wake up in the tidal wave of crap... it's gonna hit us in our face as we eat our antipast [?]... and it's not going to be attractive."

if you were to compare yourself to an animal, what animal would you choose? "It would have to be feline... Is there such thing as a Water Buffalo-Cat? That means I've been eating too much. Obviously, I'm a Leo... In some Chines beliefs, it's the year of the cat. I'm Leo in a Cat year. Double cat. I've always tried to be patient with dogs... but I really don't have patience for all that licking and jumping.... [AMEN TORI!! :-) ] It doesn't come from nowhere. Double cat really defines my nature. Perhaps a cat with fins?... I'm very much about living under water... a murk-cat."

"If you're gonna be a librarian... why not have a pencil skirt and high heels... you still have to know your catalogues... or you shouldn't be able to keep the job, no matter how sexy the leg is.... It feels really wonderful to not have to be so hard as a woman... and yet independent and equal in a man's world... which I feel I am, as far as being a negotiator... but I don't have to cut off my femiinity to do it."

What do you think about your enormous presence on the internet (web pages, chat rooms, etc.) "The reason I do, is because they know I don't know how to turn one of those things on! It's private. They can talk about the music, with no interference from me. I respect their space. If the music helps insight [incite?] people, they talk about subjects in their own way... then I feel like i've done my job..."

"I'd like to make a request... The sneak preivew shows are going to be jammed with people in a very small space.. If someone is being pushed and shoved you have to rally together so you don't get hurt. And if they're a bad apple, you need to let Joe know... There will be security everywhere. These concerts are not about violence. It is no good to say that you're spiritually growing, and you don't want violence, and then you start kicking to get a better seat... However, if someone kicks you, clock 'em! No victims here. But... try and support each other. If you've gotten in... that's a huge accomplishment... and let's make it magical... A magical seance. And we have many months ahead of us... so if you don't make this tour... we'll be ack in the summer... much improved, so you won't have missed much. And that's all!"
