Hatem........

in Connecticut

........originally from
Alexandria, Egypt........

At Niagara Falls

Together they stood watching the terrace
As Egypt feel asleep under a stifling heaven
And the Nile rolled its fatness down to cleave
Its own black delta, to Sais or to Bubastis.

He, now a prisoner caught
Holding her close to him
Feels the luxurious body he embraces
Bends and gives way to his triumphant heart.

Turning her face, pale, to meet
This man half-drunk on her invincible scents,
Now she holds up her mouth and her clear eyes;

Bent over her, he sees
In her wide pupils starred with golden points
An immeasurable sea.

In his lab.
