of Arrowsic Island at a sharp bend in the
Kennebec River to guide mariners in Bath.
One of four lights,Doubling is
nearest the shipbuilding harbor.
The octagonal tower made of wood
is connected to the island with a wooden walkway
and used to hold a fifth-order Fresnel lens.
A wooden framed keeper's house
oil house and a bell tower being built at the same time.
The keeper's house was sold to a private owner in 1934.
The light then became the responsability
of the keeper of the Kennebec River Range lights.
The light was automated in 1979,
the Fresnel lens replaced and the Squirrel Island keeper
became responsible for monitoring the light.
In 1981 all three lights became the responsibility
of the keeper at Kennebec River station.
