Mark Island Light Winter Harbor was for a long time a safe harbor for mariners. In 1856 a lighthouse was built on nearby Mark Island to guide mariners into the harbor. This light was discontinued in 1934 and a lighted buoy was placed nearby. Later the property was sold a few times and the current owner has carefully renovated it, especially the innkeeper's house, outbuildings and lighthouse.
