Nash Island Light
Built to mark the entrance to Pleasant Bay,
Moose-a-Bec Beach and Harrington Bay,
and authorized in 1837, the first lighthouse
was completed in 1838. A Fresnel lens added in 1856.
Automated in 1958, and the oil house,
keeper's buildings and all the out buildings
were destroyed and only the tower remains,
although some of the old foundations can found.
Discontinued in 1982 the light
was replaced by an offshore bouy.
The island is now home to ducks and
nesting birds and a flock of sheep,
and is part of the Maine Fish and Wildlife.
