Mission Intro Brief

The following information is basic to the treatment of the alien refugees on Pax VII. Our mission is to incorporate these beings into Pax VII society. It has been suggested that the Klande and the Thude be allowed to develop a farming community on the sub levels of the Shag Toth base recently discovered under Pax station and approximately 1 km east. However, with their ritual of tournaments about to end, the two civilisations are about to return to a state of conflict.

Challenge: With the arrival of the Volkune ambassadorial delegates and the unexpected arrival of the Victory to normal space, the Pax station will be extreemely crowded. Also, Security Chief Tirest has returned to Minbar to undergo the Dreaming so that his suppressed memories may return to their normal presence in his mind. He will not be able to speak on behalf of the Vorlons until his return. The investigation into the attempted murder of Feaf Sima's companion is still ongoing.

Task: To reach an equitable agreement with the Klande and Thude civilisations before Pax VII is tunred into a war zone. Also, to allow the transfers of several members of staff and to allow some down time for all personnel at various stages.

Creative notes on the citizens of the Vlandethu System.

The System: Binary star system G4 Yellow star and a A6 Blue-white star, 12 planets and heavy asteroid field.

The Planets: 3 Gas Giants, 2 Mars-like planets that hold mining outposts. 3 M-class worlds (earth-like) that hold the main civilisations of the Klande and their sister race the Thude. 2 Venus like worlds that hold experimental colonies of the Klande Civilisation. 2 ice planets not yet tapped for resources. The inner of the asteroid fields is mined heavily. The outer is beyond the ice planets and not yet explored. The system's jumpgate is near the outer most of the 3 M-class worlds.

The Klande and the Thude Civilizations:

Government Types: Klande - Oligarchy (Mental Elite rule) Thude - Theocracy (Religious Elite Rule)

Technology Level: Stellar with jumpgate access from the discovery and reverse engineering of the gate in system. The Governments of these two races are technologically only slightly ahead of the Volkunes but years behind the Earth Alliance.

Racial Appearence: The Klande at first glance appear human until one notices their gait. The Klande have 4 legs from their segmented hips. The Thude appear much like the Klande but their upper bodies rest on 3 legs. Both races wear long elaborately styled robes that often appear garish in their color combinations. The Klande decorate their long hair (often knee to ankle length depending on status) with jewels and feathers. The Thude Elite shave their heads while the lower classes wear theirs any where from crewcut (acrolytes) to waist length (base workers). The Klande and the Thude are cross fertile sister races and those among the Thude who develope a fourth leg and psi powers are given over to the Klande. Klande never give birth to Thude children.

History: 8,000 years ago the Thude race arose on the surface of the 3rd planet of the Vlandethu system. They rapidly developed into a religious caste system. Their god Vlande's images bear striking resemblence to a Vorlon encounter suit merged with a Thude. 4,000 years ago the binary partner of the Vlandethu system sent off high solar flares and intense radiation that penetrated the atmosphere of the Thude homeworld giving rise to a mutation of their gene pool and the birth of the Klande race. The Klande developed a 4th leg and high levels of telepathy. The Klande grew in number for several centuries until resources became scarce and fighting broke out between the two races for control.

After 200 yrs of civil/race wars, a leader rose among them who found a way to end the violence on a massive scale. This religious leader of the Thude, set up a ritualized combat to take place yearly on a special field dedicated to this combat. The champions of both sides would meet in combat to the death in several styles of events over the course of a week. There would be a ritual truce one week before and one week after the tournament to allow both side to travel to the contest and return home. At the opening of the tournament the control of various resources would be put out for the prizes. At the time of the start of the tournament truce the leaders of both races are bound together and become a single entity speaking for both races. This has lead to confusion for outsiders who have come to trade with one or the other.

The Klande are near constant telepaths always in contact with one another. This can have a disorienting effect on telepaths rated P5 or less. One of the major Klande forms of entertainment that travels by this means is a grating-the-nerves Rock and Roll that is like a combination of Rap, Soul, Heavy Metal, and Acid Rock all played at once and very off-key. Minbari and Centauri telepaths seem to be immune to this effect, most likely due to something in their methods of training. The Thude are reknowned (in nearby systems) for their soft harmonious Gregorian style of chant. The Thude high religious are trained from early youth to harmonize seemlessly in this style.

End of known information. (translated from the original Vorlon to Interlac)

Excerpt from Log of Tirest of Vorune: As they walked down the hall Ambassador Toch glided by and into the Methane section of the station. Tirest heard a thump behind him and turned weapon in hand to find the Captain on its knees facing Toch's direction. "Captain is something wrong?" Tirest asked. "Your station is truely blessed the Lord Vlande walks your halls." "Lord Vlande?? You mean Ambassador Toch. He's the representative of the Vorlon Empire. You will get a chance to meet him at the reception tomorrow for Ambassador Alarenn of the Minbari." "It is not for us to meet the god before our time on this plane is over." "I see. This could cause a problem. These are your quarters Captain. I will post a man outside to escort you where ever you need to go on station until we can get you proper identi cards. Please do not attempt to navigate the station with out an escort. If you need anything else please call security central and they will arrange it for you." "Thank you Chief of Security Tirest of Vorune. May Vlande go with you." "Thank you Captain of the Thudelator, May Valen protect you and yours." Tirest said with a Warrior Caste bow. The Minbari Chief of Security headed back down to the lower levels to find V'thtashi and report on the potential problem of Ambassador Toch and the refugees. He found her headed for her office and fell into step with her. He explained the situtation to her in detail. "So these Klande regard Toch as their god?" "That's the way of it, V'thtashi, the Vorlons have visited thousands of worlds and made themselves apart of the cultures they've touched, that is why Toch can not leave his encounter suit. Every race would recognize him and that would bring disaster down on our heads very quickly. We're going to have to keep the Klande away from Toch or we'll have a riot on our hands." "Make the arrangements then to keep the Captain and the other Klande away from Toch."
