The Simpsons
The characters
Homer
Homer
is the head of the house. He is stupid in a sophisticated way. He
may be a crude thinker, and rather dim, but he means well and
tries hard to provide for the house. He needs his R&R though,
which is why he hangs out with Barney and Moe at the tavern.
Homer is a silly ape at times, literally,as when he tries
cheering Lisa up after she gets angry at him at the dinner table.
But also a sensitive, serious man, as when he kicks Patty and
Selma out of the house after they blackmail him over a loan. He
enjoys childish antics, and always has a trick up his sleeve,
most of which backfire or are discovered before they can do much
harm. He is definitely not a handyman, knows nothing about
nuclear physics, but can eat a five alarm chili and wash it down
with a cool refreshing Duff any time of day. He can pursue a
cause passionately, such as when he tries to keep the
anti-immigrant proposition from going through, to save Apu from
deportation. He is no pious church-goer, but complies with
Marge's efforts to give the family a cultural experience
willingly. He pays most of his bills most of the times, he cannot
quite return things he borrows from Ned, and seems to have a hard
time remembering his third child, Maggie. He knows little about
the world outside Springfield, and enjoys discounted meats at the
Quickie Mart. Most of all, he is a true gentleman, as he
demonstrates to Marge at the senior prom, and a prime example of
the red blooded American.
Marge
This here is the wife
of Homer J. Simpson. A real committed homemaker, she loves the
children and works hard at keeping the house together.
Unfortunately, she is sometimes reduced to little more than a
maid, party because she has pampered her family to the point
where they expect her to pick up their plates after dinner. The
stress can really get to her, as in the time her hair falls out
and "Sherri Bobbins: comes to the rescue or when she goes
off on a weekend getaway, only to find four people eagerly
awaiting her return at the train station. She is deathly afraid
of planes, due to a early traumatic experience, and is obviously
unaccommodating to change, as in her hairstyle, which has seen no
change for over a decade. She always finds that bart or Homer
embarrass her publicly. She wants to be a part of the social
scene, and plans family activities feverishly. She a coupon
clippin', lunch packin', diaper changin' mom. She is an
intelligent woman, whose talent in some ways was wasted. But she
is a outspoken woman, who grunts at things she does not like.
Bart
Don't have a cow man! This is
the anthem of this naughty ten year old. he is obviously
developing along the lines of his father. He is the only simpson
boy, and is probably able to get away with a lot because of his
status. He carries a skateboard with him, is naughty in an
innocent way and loves squishies. He get beat by the school
bullies, but does it with dignity. Millhouseis his only real
friend. He loves to collect comics, and pogs, which causes him to
often encounter the computer conversant man at the comic shop. He
adores Krusty the clown, and has everything Krusty, from the
Toothpaste to the Krusty Brand feminine product line. He is older
than Lisa, but is probably grade levels behind his sister. he is
attention hungry, which sometimes causes him to do things he
regrets. Once, at thanksgiving dinner, he burned a Thanksgiving
centerpiece Lisa had made. Consumed by remorse, he apologizes to
her. He has tried everything, from swallowing a jagged piece of
metal, to selling his soul. He is generous, as he proves when he
gives up all his money to but Lisa a record by Bleeding Gums
Murphy, after his death. He is a little plump, but hey, look at
Homer. He loves his do, Santa's Little Helper. He makes frequent
trips to Shelbyville to exact revenge on the kids in the
neighboring town. His escapades bring life to the Simpson home.
Lisa
Lisa is very wise for
her age. Her love for books, has caused her to be isolated from
kids her age. She has a passion for the Saxophone. Very few
people in Springfield have been able to look at Lisa at the
intellectual level she desires, they are the substitute teacher
and Bleeding Gums. She is an intellectual trapper in a child's
body. She is smart, but has not lost her innocence. She frequents
he library, is seldom seen at at the playground and is the odd
one out in the family. She quests answers to questions, which
leave her family scrambling for answers. She and Bart are known
for their sleuthing, and their ability to expose truth, uncover
scandals and evoke change. She battles complex subjects such as
sexism in Malibu Stacy, workers rights at the Nuclear Plants and
the morals of a town when Sideshow Bob rigged the elections. They
have saved Krusty many times, something for which Krusty shows
little gratitude. Go Lisa!
Maggie
Maggie's character is
defined by her deathly silence. The bib causes her not only to
delay starting to speak, but also are causing her teeth to form
crooked. She has spoken only once, when she said
"da-da". As Homer says,"the sooner kids learn to
talk, the sooner they learn to talk back." Maggie
understands a lot more that she seems to. her silence makes her
the fifth and least noticed member of the house.
