New York Knicks guard Chris Childs was hospitalized Wednesday night after suffering a concussion when he was accidentally kneed in the head by Miami Heat guard Eric Murdock. The incident occurred just 19 seconds into the 2nd quarter. Childs tried to spin away from Murdock and slipped to the floor, losing the ball. He tried to reach for the ball, but Murdock beat him to it, stepping over him and hitting him in the back of the head with his left knee. The force of the first blow appeared to knock Childs' forehead against the floor. He was down on the floor for about 5 minutes
before being helped to his feet and off the court. He appeared very woozy. Childs initially refused a stretcher, but was placed on one for ambulance transport to Doctors Hospital in Miami for observation. He was diagnosed with a concussion. The 30-year-old Childs is averaging 6.9 points and 4.1 assists in 40 games this season, his 2nd with the Knicks and 4th in the NBA. He played 5 years in the CBA before pending his 1st 2 NBA seasons with the New Jersey Nets.
