What is "System File Checker"? System File Checker or SFC restores missing or corrupted "system" files: files which are necessary for your computer to function smoothly and without error or faults. These faults occur most often when a program is uninstalled or removed.
Running SFC is the simplest "fix" for this problem.
To run System file checker, click on start........ run...... type in
SFC and click on OK. You will then see a window that asks if you want to
"scan for altered files" Click on that option and then click on 'start'.
It will then scan your system files, and if you have any that are missing or altered you will get a popup window asking you if you want that file restored. Yes, you do, or you wouldn't be running the SFC utility!!
Click on "restore the file" and "OK". It may ask you for your windows disk or for your "restore" disk (if you have a brandname computer). In this case, insert the cd in the cdrom and allow it to search the cd for the missing or corrupted file.
There may be more than one missing or corrupted file, so you may have to do several files to get system back in top operating order.
