Paper or plastic?
Okay, so I work at this supermarket store called Giant. And let me tell you, I HATE IT!!!!! Then why, you ask, am I working here if I hate it so much? Well, my mom said I had to get a job to pay for insurance if I wanted to use the car (since I have my license and everything now). But ever since I got my job, all my free time has been spent working. So, even though I have the money to pay for insurance now, I have nowhere to drive because I'm always at work! It sucks so bad...I never get together with my friends anymore like I used to every weekend. :( Okay, so that's one reason I'm complaining about my job.
Another reason I hate my job is the actual work that I have to do. Well, the work itself isn't too bad (packing groceries and being a cashier), but it's the PEOPLE that I can't stand. If it's one thing I've learn from working in a grocery store, it's that people in general are fussy, picky and will do anything to make sure YOUR job is as hard as it can possibly be. For example, I HATE IT when I ask "Is plastic okay?" and the customer goes "No, I want paper IN plastic" or "No, double bagged paper, please arrange the groceries according to the four basic food groups", etc. I'm thinking, okay, did I ask if I could arrange your groceries according to their nutritional value and calorie content? No. I simply asked "Is plastic okay?" Why someone would choose an option that wasn't even offered to them is beyond me. But of course, I have to smile and say "sure" sweetly and kindly and give them paper in plastic, even though it's a pain in the butt to do. Another thing I hate is when people break a jar of like, mayonaisse or something, and you have to clean it up AND run back and get them another one, and then you bring it back to them, and they're like "Oh, I got the 32 oz. jar, not the 16." And I'm like "GRRRR!!!" as I'm running back through the store to get the customer the right jar of stupid mayonaisse.
Alright, here's another thing that I hate about my job: my co-workers (well, most of them anyway) Since I just started this job only a little while ago, I obviously don't know too much. But still, people insist on sending me on a price check for some obscure item I've never heard of, then give me weird looks when I come back like an hour later, after going on a mad hunt for this item. I mean, DUH! I just started working here, sorry if I haven't had a chance to memorize every dumb aisle of the store and it's contents. Pardon me. And then, the WORST thing about Giant, is that they give you like no training whatsoever. When I first started working there, they just suddenly one day threw me onto a register. I had NO clue what I was doing. So people are coming through my line, and it's taking like an hour to get through one customer because I have to keep bugging the people around me because I don't know how to work the register. Really, it's not fun. And then, the customers get mad and look all annoyed, as if they're saying, "God, of ALL the lines here, I had to get into the one with the cashier girl who doesn't know what the hell she's doing." So I feel really bad for holding people up, but I mean, hey, what can I do? It's not my fault I was put on register with hardly any register knowledge whatsoever. So, that's why I hate my job. Take my advice: never work at a grocery store. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.
