Mud is Too Funny

I know...I have been "quiet" lately. I am extremely busy getting ready for next week's vacation. I will be out the entire week, so you have between now and then to take odds on what kind of adventures this weekend's trip to Iowa will bring. We will be taking a package of those cotton wrapped boot laces, just in case we need to fix a tire; we will be travelling during the daylight hours, so the coons and pheasants should not be hovering over the roadways. ;) Bill's lead foot is entirely another matter, so don't rule out the ticket booth. :) Just to give you a chuckle for today, I will share another misadventure on the Baker Ranch:

Monday morning, it was raining...of course. What rain means at the Baker Ranch is mud. Monday was particularly bad because Bill had rented a bobcat over the weekend to get some dirt around the house to stop the flow of water off the hill from taking it's tour under the house. We have to leave the house early in the morning...Travis says he wakes up the sun. :) Our front "sidewalk" (which we affectionately call "The Boardwalk") consists of wooden pallets that Bill brought home from work. (It works until we can finish our design and building of the permanent front steps.) Well, the pallets sit on top of the ground, and the front has a fairly decent slope to it...you see this coming, huh?

Travis was 3/4 asleep, Billy was bouncing around on the pallets in his normal state of "moonstruck bliss"...As I hit the slope, I felt the pallet move under what used to be my feet. I fell in a perfect 3 point landing (knee, hip and elbow) into the soft mud, and all I could do was laugh. The boys missed everything except for Mom trying to get out of the mud, which was probably even less graceful than the fall. Beached whale is the image that comes to my mind. ;) At least no one was hurt, and Bill's coffee cup was still in my hand, still full of coffee...we have our priorities. :)

Of course, you know we were running late to begin with, right? :) So, I had to go into the house, change clothes, etc. I had taken the boys to the van, along with the coffee cup. When I came out, the second time, I was a little more cautious when I hit the slope. Bill was sitting there, picking the mud off the rim of his cup.

"I hear you took a dip this morning...sorry I missed it and didn't have the camera ready...You know, the least you could have done was kept the mud out of the coffee." We both sat there laughing all the way to work. :)

So, when you think you have a bad day facing you, just remember, it could be worse. My week has been good since Monday. ;)
