A DAY THE WORLD WILL NEVER FORGET

© Guy Parneix and Dennis Waldron

As I sit trying to put into words all of the emotions that I am feeling, I find I am a at a loss for words. This is truly an awful day in America's history. I dread the day my daughter comes to me and says, "Mom, my teacher wanted me to ask what you were doing on September 11, 2001. Do you remember?" It will be with great pain that I tell her, "Yes, honey. Just as my mother remembers where she was when Kennedy was shot, I remember where I was when America was attacked. I was in my parent's living room.  You were napping upstairs, recovering from your first asthma attack and hospital stay. I thought I'd been through hell the two days before, but I came to realize hell was just beginning."

A lot of tears started falling that day and they are still falling as I write this. My husband's cousin was in New York, luckily, upstate New York and she is now safely home.

I have no personal contact with anyone who has been affected by this tradgedy, but someone I care about is among the missing. Angel Juarbe, 35, is a fire fighter for the Ladder 12 in the Chelsea District. He is one of the many missing fire fighters. He has been missing from the first day. It's been said the last anyone heard from him was, "Gotta go. There's a call at the World Trade Center." My heart breaks for him.  I've never met Angel, but I felt I got to know him, somewhat, by watching him on Murder in Small Town X. He won the game and the $250,000 and the Jeep. The Jeep went to his father and he was putting away the money for retirement. One he may never see, but I hope and pray that he does.

UPDATE 12-28-01: I just found out today that Angel's body was found on November 28th and he was laid to rest in early December.  My thoughts and prayers are now for his family and I thank God for lending us one of His Angels for as long as he did!

I so want to be in New York right now, helping at Ground Zero, but that is not possible. I am instead doing what I can do. I am crocheting pins for the victim's families and sending them to Pins of Hope through Heartmade Blessings.  It's not much, but I feel I am helping. I am not saying this to brag, I am saying this to ask for your help. Can you crochet, knit, quilt, sew, cut and paste? If you can do any of these, your help is needed. A lot of pins are needed. This has helped me. Perhaps it can help you. Click on the name and it will take you to the site with all of the information you need.

A great many tribute pages have been set up.Lady in Black has a wonderful collection of pictures from around the world and Frogger's Pond has another fantastic page. There are so many others that I cannot list them all. Just remember to hold your own Tribute Page in your heart and never forget. God Bless America.

I was honored with this award on September 23, 2001 by Lady J. Thank you.
