This page is in loving memory of Marion Eugene King who passed away on 3 Oct, 1996. He had a passion for roses which he would plant and tend to every place he lived, hence the roses background. Picked with love for him. He was a devoted husband and father and he leaves behind a wife, children and grandchildren who all miss him so very much. May he walk serenely with God and one day soon we will all be together. We hope you will enjoy your time with him here as we have in his lifetime.
HIGH FLIGHT
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of--wheeled and soared and
swung
High in the sunlit silence.
Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along
and flung
My eager craft throught footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue
Where never lark or even eagle flew!
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high, untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
Marion Eugene King was born on 12 Oct. 1929 in Newberry, S.Carolina to Pearl Eugene King and Eva Nancy Holsonbach. He was the second of six children. In this picture he is about 15 years old. In school he would play football and win several trophies for this sport. The other sport of his life was baseball where he played with Billy O'Dell, who would go on to play the Atlanta Braves. He went to school until he was 17 and joined the air force. There he earned his GED and attended college when he was discharged, graduating with a B+ average. He worked at the local cotton mill in "Oakland" while attending college. During this time three of his four children were born. His children are; Diane Marie, Curtis Eugene, Karl Edward. In 1964 the family moved to Atlanta, Ga. where he got a job at the Federal Penitenitary. He worked there for 28 years working his way up to senior corrections officer specialist and upon his retirement he was made honorary acting warden. After retirement he worked with a security corporation and was about this time we found out that he had Parkinson's Disease and diabetes.
This picture was taken about 1952 while Marion was stationed here at Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda, Michigan. He was an airman and served as an AP (policeman) at the base. It was here that he met his future wife, Patricia Brown, who lived just down the road from the main gate. He enjoyed bowling and fishing in the many local fishing spots, esp. the dam on Van Ettan Lake. He was kind of shy and to himself but a rather likeable guy.
This is Marion's air force id of the time. He was very proud of his service time and always had a tale or two to tell. He was honorably discharged in Sept. 1952 shortly after coming home from serving in the Phillipines. He and Pat would make their home in Newberry, South Carolina for the first 10 years before moving to Atlanta, Ga.
SOMEONE SPECIAL
There's someone very special...
I found alone the way,
Who knows my deep affection...
The words I cannot say.
How changed would be the story...
Without this someone dear,
Who shares my hopes and dreamings...
And laughs away a tear.
Companionshiip so priceless...
And understanding, too.
Who is this someone special?
My husband, our father,
It is you!!!

This picture of Marion was taken in 1992 and he is with his youngest son, Karl. Karl is holding is new son at the time, Karl Jr. and Marion is holding his first great grandchild, Blake. He was a great grandfather, loving all of his kids and grandkids equally. This was also taken on Father's Day of that year. He got the shirt as a gift.
What we have here is Marion with three of his special "girls". One the far left is his granddaughter Brandy and then her mother Diane, Marion's daughter. This next one with the wrapping on her finger is Chrysti, Diane's other daughter who had just had to have her finger sewn back on from an accident. Other granddaughter missing from the picture is Gena. The pup here is Cricket who could sit up and put her paws together to pray. Not kidding!!
If you would please, take some time out to check out these very helpful sites onn the diseases that Marion had. Maybe they could be of some use to you or someone you know in the future. They are very useful and informative sites. Thank you.
