Subject: MTV Names Conn. Teen Its Newest VJ From: jrogow@ridgenet.net (-=JR=-) Date: 1998/04/19 Message-ID: <6hbuvs$s4o$3@ash.ridgecrest.ca.us> Newsgroups: alt.gossip.celebrities [More Headers] April 18, 1998 Filed at 10:19 p.m. EDT By The Associated Press MTV Names Conn. Teen Its Newest VJ NEW YORK (AP) -- Jesse Camp's about to be a household name. The 19-year-old native of Granby, Conn., was named the winner Saturday of Music Television's nationwide search for a VJ. Camp was picked from more than 4,000 aspiring VJs, who auditioned this week in Manhattan. ``A lot of people don't know what to do with me,'' Camp told The Hartford Courant before his selection. ``It's, like, they think I'm from another planet. I'm this tall, skinny kid with freaky hair.'' The competition was open to 18 to 28-year-olds. As one of six finalists ``he clearly stood out,'' MTV executive vice president told the Courant. ``He has unique qualities and energy and he was able to talk about music in a compelling way.'' Camp said he wanted the job because ``it beats sweeping streets or being the president.'' He hits MTV this summer.
