Comments:
This novel has Corran Horn of the X-Wing series as the main character, and is set in 1st person narrative, which I liked. I think it started out very well, but the whole section where Corran is at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy is just a lot of the plot of The Jedi Academy Trilogy rehashed and condensed, with Corran taking part in the action. Since I thought the Luke/Force/Jedi Academy section of the plot was the worst part of The Jedi Academy Trilogy, I didn't like this part of the book too much. It seems to be emphasizing Luke Skywalker's failures, and his students' failures, which I don't think is a point in the original Star Wars spirit. The last section, where Corran infiltrates the pirates, is better, but it doesn't seem to me that Corran acts very Jedi-like some of the time. I'm also confused as to whether Corran is or isn't a Jedi anyway. And Corran's attitute about sex is not something I really admire.
