My 2001 camping trips
I went camping in parks near to Montreal in September, 2001. The first trip was during the long weekend (labour day) with my sister, Margot. We went to Parc d'Oka for two nights.
We took a hike along a chapel trail, not far from our campsite. It was a nice leisurely walk... No bears, just small snakes and chipmunks!!
The campsite itself was very basic. There are full-service washrooms less than a minute's walk away, with showers and wash basins. In SEPAQ parks, you're not allowed to burn the underbrush...
The squirrels at our campsite were the funniest... They hang out in the tops of trees and drop acorns down on the campers all day long!!
My next camping trip was alone at Mont Tremblant park. This time I chose a more basic campsite with only an outhouse rather than a full-fledged washroom with showers. There are showers, however, at the information center.
The most spectacular views were in the early morning, at about 6:30am, right outside me tent! I chose a campsite that was on the edge of Lac Monroe, where I had regular morning visits from a local beaver!
I was also visited by various other animals, including two racoons, loons, a black bear, several deer, a ferret, ducks... The deer came by my campsite near 5am to walk down to the water for a sip!!
Being that summer was over, and it was after labour day, there weren't large crowds of people around, which was nice. People had a bit of trouble with racoons and crows crowding their personal space, and that led to a few giggles around the campsite!!
There are several interesting trails at Mont Tremblant. The most awesome view I had all weekend was from La Roche. I could see my campsite from here! Find it in this picture, keeping in mind the morning photos with two islands in the fog.
