I am 37, an Atlanta native, and unapolegetically fat (i weigh over 400 lbs)! I see no need to lie about my weight since fat is sexy. I had to work too hard to get this great looking body to waste my time feeling negative about obesity. Other details: I am 5'9, a college graduate, friendly, shy, intelligent,...they tell me my IQ is in the genuis level...but I think of myself as quite ordinary. I like to dance, exercise, laugh, meet new people, and talk about whatever. I'm one of those peple who knows a little about everything (which makes me a great coversationalist and trivial pursuit partner!).

I am a member of the United Methodist Church and attend services on a regular basis. I like the UMC because it is kinda an ecclectic church (and that would appeal to a kinda ecclectic chick-let like myself). We sing the hymns that were common in the fundamentalist church that I attended as a child and yet they are not dogmatic, or rabidly evangelistic. I am involved in my church in various volunteer capacities. We visit a retirement center once a month, work in shelters and food banks, and sponsor many activities that benefit people in our community.

My interests lie in history, classic novels, almost any genre of film...but especially foreign films, a broad range of music...yes, I admit I like country music, art...but my attitude is, I like what I like and don't try to justify it or explain it to others...I am decidedly non-pretentious. I like to be giddy and fun-loving but am firmly grounded in pragmatism. I usually examine and weigh a situation thoroughly before acting...and yet I can be impulsive...yikes!...I am a contradiction within contradictions.

I am a divorced, single mother and the most important man in my life is my son. I take being a parent very seriously...I will tell people that I place my son's welfare before my own pleasure...I am very serious about this...I can never understand the mothers out there who jeopardize their child's safety just to have a man in their life. So I would just scrutinize a man ad nauseum before I would date him. A friend and I were discussing this and he said that parents jump into relationships all the time and if it doesn't work they jump out. Well I don't know if I could ever do that to my son, but my friend at least got me to look at myself. I had been using my son as an excuse to protect my heart from getting hurt. I am grateful to this friend, I prefer to date casually, and don't want to be in a relationship at this point in my life. I realized I could date just to have fun and not have to carry that burden of my son's welfare. Wow! That was a load of anxiety off my mind!

Probably most people think they know me but in actuality, very, very few ever get to know me...I am a complex, complicated person...I don't mean that in any sort of negative sense...it's just the nature of the beast. I like who I am, I would not change myself, or any of the events in my life. I tend to view everything both positively and negatively (weighing both sides) and can appreciate the tragedy in my life as well as the triumphs. I guess it is like that much overused Nietzche quote...What fails to kill me makes me only stronger. That is true to a point...as long as you don't allow the hardships in your life to kill the tiny flame of hope, love, joi de vivre, that exists in your soul.

As I frequently strive to achieve...I pray for a heart of flower not a heart of stone. That means rationalizing, accepting, forgiving others, regardless of their intent. I also try to live the golden rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I view this as a proactive statement. A goal to become pro-active rather than reactive in life. To treat others as you wish they would treat you...not the way they deserve to be treated...and certainly not in reaction to what they have done.

This is really the essence of my christianity. I am not a dogmatic person. I don't claim to have a the answers for everyone. I do not try to convert others to my way of belief. I try to live a life of love and forgiveness. It is hard...and I do fail...but it is a goal to which I work toward.

A few of my favorite things...

Jane Siberry

I have been a fan of Jane Siberry for about ten years now. I first heard her on a college radio station in Atlanta, immediately liked what I heard, and have considered her my favorite musician since.

Jane's music is difficult to catagorize into one particular genre. "Bound by the Beauty" is folk/country. "Teenager" is just Jane and her acoustic guitar singing songs she wrote as a teenager. "When I was a Boy" is a lush, multi-layered, sensuous work. I especially like the song, "Love is Everything"...all about the frailities and faults of love. "Maria" a jazz album. Jane's gossamer-like voice floats, wraps, entwines with the music.

Jane Siberry is more an artist than a musician.

American Beauty
This film is humorous, scathing, dead-on look into the heart of the american family and the people that surround them. I am a Kevin Spacey fan (since The Usual Suspects, another fav) and he is great in this movie. Annette Bening plays the mother and it would have been better if she gave it a sharper edge...i think the movie could benefitted from a stronger actress such as Michelle Pfeiffer or Kathy Bates. A typical american movie would have a happy ending. This is an american movie but you will have to see it to find out if it is typical or not (I'm not telling).

Will & Grace

This is my favorite television show currently on the air. If you are gay or have a friend who is gay you will find this show hilarious. When Jack turned 30 and lamented, "Do you have any idea just how old that is in gay years!"...lol...any gay man would wince at the thought!...lol.

In my opinion the supporting characters are funnier than the leads. Jack is a flamboyant homosexual and Karen is a gold-digging JAP (jewish american princess). Both are heartless, materialistic, narcisistic people...who will go to any depths in order to get what they want. I guess that's why it is so funny.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontė
My favorite novel. Jane Eyre is an orphan and the book tells of her life from childhood to young adulthood. It has gothic elements and yet Jane is a feminist (before her time) challenging social conventions and following her heart.

Most films do not do this novel justice, however A&E's version is the best I have viewed thusfar. The worst adaptation is the one that stars William Hurt. It is awful, and the entire story was changed, thus missing the heart of the novel.

Those who favor the dismantling of the welfare state should read a 19th century novel (such as this one or any by Charles Dickens or Thomas Hardy) to realize what life was like at one time.

I really dislike pop-up ads on webpages. At one time I was able to place a fixed one on my geocities page and thus prevented the pop-up. Well, now you can't avoid them. My sincere apologies to all my visitors. I do not necessarily endorse any product in the pop-up ads.
