This is a Meade DS 114 telescope that I got in August, after my sister saw that the museum store was permanently closing and things were very discounted. This model is one of Meade's beginner telescopes. I got it for $40.
Noooooww, I know this was just about the worst place to get a good telescope, but I figured it was cheap enough to just give it a try. And who else but me has the patience to find all the missing parts. If I didn't get it it would probably get thrown out or collect dust somewhere.
So, because Meade is a popular brand, there a lot of parts for this scope that I found on ebay, and for about $80 (from russell optics, look for him on ebay), I got a finderscope, a new focuser sleeve (with barlow-ish lens), the Autostar controller, and a set of slow drive gears I would use later on.
This is a view of the telescope set up with the mounting and stand it came with. You can see some of the parts were missing: the top of the focuser sleeve (holds the eyepieces), the finderscope, and the Autostar controller. The focuser sleeve itself was also a little damaged.
This is a picture of the mounting and stand. I am working on an
equatorial one.
