During August and September, 2001, we studied
positions that contained smothered mates.
Arrive at the club before 7:30 if you want to
participate in study sessions,
which will include tactics, endgames, strategy, master games, etc.

Here are several positions from Fred Reinfeld's
1001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate that we
solved and discussed. All of them contain smothered
mate as a theme, and most of them end
with a knight delivering checkmate.

If you can see the solutions as fast as Craig
LaSalle did, then you may be as fast as he is at
seeing solutions to these problems.

If you can't figure out the solutions,
then buy the book and use the numbers
above each diagram to find the
positions in the book.
