How to...

 

start Theme-Assist from the command-line

Assist <filename> <option>

 

<filename> : This value is the name of the theme to activate (with full path)

<option> : This value can either be left empty or it can be /C

If you enter /C the theme specified by filename will be directly activated.

install a theme

 

Press the button with the computer on it (Install apears if you hold the mouse over the button).

Type in the directory name, where to find the theme to install or press the upper book-button right beside the entry field to open a directory dialog. After hitting the button, you have to select the source directory and press OK.

(Be sure that the whole theme is in only one directory.
No subdirectories.)

Enter the name of the destination directory or press the book-button beside the entry field. If you have pressed the button, you have to select a directory or create a new one by clicking on the little button with the directory tree on it. Type in the directory name and press OK.

Press OK to close the directory dialog.

Hit INSTALL to start the installation of the theme.

If there is a valid theme (a file that has the .theme extension) in the directory the installation will begin.
The name of the theme will appear in the box INSTALLED THEMES.

Press the close-button after the copy procedure.

deinstall a theme

 

On the main window press the install-button.

Select the theme to deinstall in the INSTALLED THEMES-Box.

Click DEINSTALL.

Hit CLOSE after the deinstallation.

load a theme

Press the little book on the main window (the text OPEN appears when you hold the mouse over it).

A file dialog will open. Simply choose a theme file from a directory where you have installed a theme to.

save a theme

Press the disk button on the main window (the text SAVE AS... appears when you hold the mouse over it).

Select a filename and press the OK-Button in the dialog box.

clear the current settings

Hit the trashcan-button on the main window.

A message will ask you if you are sure to delete the settings.

Press OK to aknowledge.

set Windows standard settings

Press the little arrow of the combo box in the upper left of the main window.

Select 'Standard Windows' and all the settings will be reduced to the original Windows settings.

edit theme settings manually

Press the button with the hand holding a pencil (the text TEXTEDITOR appears when you hold the mouse over it).

Edit your settings and press SAVE, to save your changes to a theme-file.

Press CLOSE to close the texteditor.

load a background image

Hold the mouse over the big image in the main window which shows your current windows-background.

Click with the left mouse-button in this picture.

A file dialog will appear. Select a picture (BMP or JPG) and hit OK.

The new picture should be visible on the main window.

load a symbol

Click the left mouse-button on a symbol of your choice.

Select a symbol from a file and press OK.

set the screensaver

Click the SCREENSAVER-Button on the main window.

A new dialog will be shown, that let's you load, erase and test a screensaver.

Hit OK to aknowledge.

set sounds, pointer and colors

Hit the SOUNDS, POINTER, COLORS-Button on the main window.

Select a sound, a color or a pointer in the dialog.

The current setting will be shown in the entry field at the bottom and, for pointer and colors, in the little box at the upper right.

Sounds can be directly heard if you select an item of the sounds register.

Press the little book to load a new sound to the selected event, to load a pointer or to set a new color.

Hit the rubber-button to delete a sound, a pointer or a color.

Hit the trashcan-button in the Colors-Dialog to delete all colors set.

Hit OK to aknowledge all the settings.

capture

click on the capture-button on the main window.

Choose ‚Desktop‘ to capture the whole desktop or ‚Active window‘ for only the active window.

Press ‚Activate capture‘. Now you can capture a picture by pressing ALT+F12.

You can save the picture to disk or copy it to the clipboard.

change boot pictures (Win95 only)

Press ‚Bootscreens‘ on the main window.

Click on the image you want to change and choose a picture-file.

Note:

These pictures must have a size of 320 * 400 pixel and must have 256 colors.

The filesize of such an image must be 129.078 bytes.

change login settings (Windows NT only)

Press ‚NT Login‘ on the main window.

You can now select a wallpaper (click on the image field), which will be shown, when you have to login. Choose a screensaver for the login-area.

There are some extras, too.

If you don’t want to type in your password each time you start NT, simply enter your name and password in the default login area and check ‚Use as default login‘.

Windows NT will start without asking you for your name and password.

Note:

If you want to enter your name and password, simply hold ‚SHIFT‘ when NT starts.

This will interrupt the procedure for that time.

‚Power down after shutdown‘ means that the computer will turn off, after shutting down NT.

‚Shutdown without logon‘ lets you shut down your computer without being logged in.

activate the settings

On the lower part of the main window are several check boxes which let you choose whether you want to activate the specific settings or not (checked for OK).

Press OK to activate the settings. Reboot your computer et voilà.........

Uninstall

Press the Setup & About-Button on the main window.

Hit the PREPARE TO UNINSTALL-Button.

Delete the files ASSIST.EXE and NVIEWLIB.DLL manually from your system.
