Being out of high school's kind of scary
for this multi-cultural Gary
It means the end
of some old friends
familiar faces
familiar places
never to be seen again
it's a great win
But there's some loss
I never knew the real cost
of that diploma 'til I earned it
But it does no good to burn it
And I have to move on
Be strong
and enter the next phase
college, career, and sometime a wife
there will be strife
but also good
I'll do what I should
and what I can
to become a real man
Gotta learn to understand
Things that I never understood
There was no way that I possibly could
have understood these things before
knowledge and wisdom comes with being more mature
Got more freedom and more responsibility
It'll be tough, but I think I can handle it be-
cause my parents raised me right
helped me out every night
that I needed help
and never resorted to a thing called a belt
My mom's passing made me grow up
In ways that I don't even know of
I love my mom and miss her
I wish I could hug and kiss her
But just like graduation I had to move on
and stay strong
there's still a long
tunnel of life
before the light
at the end
many turns and many bends
up ahead
plans and goals help like headlights
making clearer what's in the dark night
but sometimes you still feel empty inside
You just crawl to a cave in the tunnel and hide
Everyone gets that way
Some days
But the drum of life still plays
and when you come out of that cave
You might see something new in the headlights
something just might
be the best thing you've ever experienced
or it could be death
no one knows
exactly what the future holds
just stay on your toes
The more you learn, the more you know
That's why now that I've had my high school graduation
I'm gonna move on and get a college education
Learn everything that I can
Because when I have wisdom I'll be a better man
I want to look into my eyes
five years from now and see just how wise
I have become
and how much more knowledge I can still learn from
Life is knowledge and living is learning
Right now I'm earning
my right to live
I want to receive so I can give
I've already given my talent and mind
and my time
which for a genesis is just fine
given my devotions 
and emotions
hopefully they'll make the magic potion
to making money
to give to this land of milk and honey
ain't a damn thing funny
about some things in this country
and the world
we shouldn't need to hide our little boys and girls
from the rest of the world
we need to get rid of the crime, the hate, and the anger
and take away the danger 
from the streets
so we can finally live in peace
