Hush - Kula Shaker
-----------------------------
*Single Version*
[Transcribed by TNT SHWE]
Notes:
Woah, I can't stress how much I love this song! It is one of the very few
that can put me into a good mood whenever I hear it!
Here's a great transcription to start the new year, which is definitely my
favourite Kula Shaker song and song at the moment! I'm transcribing the
single version which I hear is the same as the version found on the recent
"I Know What You Did Last Summer" movie soundtrack album (which may I add,
contains the most amazing young cast I've ever seen)...
I have transcribed the "sharps" version as opposed to the "flats" version..
Because after all, this is a really "sharp" song (heh heh)! After that
really cheap joke, onto a really not-cheap song... Hush...
The song is not hard to play at all...
It's just the effective fusion of all the colourful sounds you hear that
makes it sound more complicated than it actually is! The bulk of the song
is played up around the middle of your fretboard, so make sure that your
guitar has relatively low action for ease of play! As always, to get the
most out of this transcription, play along with the track and listen to it
carefully to set up the sound on your amps.
Ideally, two guitars are required... Guitar 1 (the lead guitar) should have
some distortion with a little delay and fitted with a wah-wah...
Guitar 2 (the rhythm guitar) should be switchable from a clean sound to a
distorted sound similar to Guitar 1...
In the Intro, the solo rhythm guitar should be played by Guitar 2 on the
clean setting... Guitar 2 is played with this setting for every part of
the song except for the Chorus and Solo sections where it plays the rhythm
with the distorted setting...
Guitar 1 plays all parts of the song without the wah-wah, with few
exceptions... The wah-wah is used in the Chorus sections when "Hush, hush"
is sung for the 3rd and 4th times (where the C chord is played, although it
can be substituted with C7/D# or C/G) and also for the parts involving the
C7/D# chord at the end of each of the chorus sections.. The wah-wah is used
heavily in Solo 2 and through the remaining sections until the end of the
song...
The chord sequences involving the C/G with F/C are played with the F/C
chord strummed just once... The F/C can be thought of as a transition chord.
The same applies for the (transition) A# chord in the C with A# chord
sequences...
Note carefully that the chords in brackets in the Chorus sections are when
the chords are actually played... Think of the chords out of the brackets
in that section as an indication of when to change to that chord...
And don't forget to add plenty of muting in between the changes!
The ultra kewl C7/D# chord in the Verse section can be easily substituted
with the C7 chord (8 10 8 9 8 8), with little change in sound...
The transcription indicates where the chord should actually be played...
Add plenty of co-ordinated muting in between...
The final thing to note is that this transcription does not indicate where
the slides and muting take place in the song, so make sure you know the
rhythm and feel of the song so you can add these bits in appropriately
yourself... The slides usually end on open strings and the muting is done
with the left hand (by holding the strings lightly - barely touching them,
while strumming normally) to create a "ska" type sound..Play what you feel
you're comfortable with... Improvisation is a good skill to learn as this
will teach you to become a better musician!
