DIGEST INFO:
Besides the regular aerosmith mailing list and his aerosmith page, our buddy
Joe Hill also maintains ANOTHER list known as the AEROSMITH DIGEST. The info is as
follows:
WWhen you send mail to aerosmith-fans@dartmouth.edu the mail is sent to everyone
on the list, now a copy of the message will also go to a file. Once daily that
formatted file will be sent to everyone on the digest list.
1) It's a once-daily mailing with all the days aerosmith-list mail in a single
formatted message. It is sent out at 5am EST.
2) The daily digests are saved for one month and are retrievable upon request.
3) the digest is a totally separate list and is called "aerosmith-fans-digest"
So if you so choose to switch lists:
a) send mail to aerosmith-fans-request@dartmouth.edu", in the body of the
message say: "unsubscribe aerosmith-fans". You can either send a 2nd mail
message with "subscribe aerosmith-fans-digest" or just add that 2nd line to the
first message. (This worskYou can also subscribe to aerosmith-fans-digest and
stay on aerosmith-fans if you choose. I enjoy the random aerosmith mail and I
hope everyone doesn't switch to digest form.
4) Handling manual subscriptions is alot of work so if you are having trouble
unsubscribing try this first. send mail to aerosmith-fans-request@dartmouth.edu
and use the command "who aerosmith-fans". That returns a list of current users
in the list. Search for your email address and make sure it matches. The list
won't let you unsubscribe if it doesn't because it thinks you are trying to
unsub someone else. If you still can't get off (hmmm) send me mail to
Joseph.L.Hill@dartmouth.edu. and I'll do a manual unsub.
5) I know this is long and over explained, trying to get this up without
creating too much work for myself. I get around 300 mail messages a day!
6) If it does anything strange let me know. It seems to work great but I'm
still playing with some options.

FAN CLUB INFORMATION:
The official Aerosmith fan club is Aero Force One. It's not
too bad as fan clubs go. People have had problems in the past,
but they are better than they used to be. They send you a pretty
groovy newsletter in the mail - four of them per subscription. It
has a few pictures, interviews, news about the band and some
merchandise that's not exactly exclusive and not exactly cheap,
but it's not highway robbery. When you sign up you get a bunch of
cool shit in the mail - currently it consists of some stickers, a
cool metal pin, a plastic membership card, and a cardboard
picture of the band with their signatures stamped on (once upon a
time they sent us real photos. I think they should do this again.) Plus
the newsletter has a band history/profiles thing. It's reasonably accurate.
The cool thing is that when you are a member, you get a shot at really
good seats to concerts. I can't say that this is foolproof, because as you
have probably seen on the newsgroup there are plenty of people out there who
claim to have been ripped off or claim to be able to get better seats
elsewhere. But I will say that last tour I was 7th row on the floor, and
although it did take a coupla expensive phone calls and a lot of
anxiety and waiting, it was WORTH IT!! The deal is that AF1 gets
tickets, supposedly the best ones, early, and sells them early.
So members can get good tickets before they go on sale to the
general public. The problem is first of all, you don't know where
your seats ARE until the day of the show. So like you can't tell
whether some other seats would be better, plus it's kind of
anxiety ridden - I want the damn tickets in my hand!! I had to
wait like an hour at the Mullins Center for mine, and I nearly
went INSANE. The other thing is that you have to find out the
tour dates early, and the only way to do that is to call the
$%#@! fan club all the time. Did I mention it's a toll call to
California?? It's supposed to work out that the tickets don't go
on sale until way after the show's been announced on radio and
all. But any of you who tried to get tickets to the Great Woods
show last tour know that it doesn't always work out that way. So
like there ARE problems. But I mean, for me, it's pretty cool,
because I don't have any concert connections or anything. I don't
have an Uncle Vinney at Ticketron, and I don't have time to spend
100 hrs on the phone or to sleep at the damn Mullins Center. Or,
for that matter, to listen to the radio 24 hrs a day. With AF1
all I have to do is call them, and yeah, it costs me but at least
I know if Aerosmith comes somewhere, I'll have a pretty good chance
of being there too.
If you want to join, send a check, money order or Visa/MC #
for $16 ($23 Canada and Foreign) with your name, phone, address,
birthdate and sex to:
Aero Force One
Dept. A-93
PO Box 882494
San Francisco CA 94188
Or, call the fan club hotline at (415) 597-5500, or the customer
service line @ 5544, Mo-Fri 9 AM - 4:30 PM. They are picky about
the "Dept A" stuff, so make sure you include it. ANYTHING SENT TO
THEM WITHOUT A DEPARTMENT WILL ONLY GET YOU A BROCHURE IN REPLY.
When you join, they'll send you a list of different departments
(they change em around occasionally) and how to send them mail.
Anything you want sent straight to the band (letters, birthday
cards, etc.) goes to Dept Z. Oh, and one more thing. Don't expect
to get ANYTHING from them in less than a month. Better make it
two months. I renewed last August and I didn't get the stuff in
the mail until April. They told me it was computer problems.
Anyhow, just don't expect instant gratification.
For Asian Fans there is also AF1 Japan:

**IMPORTANT**
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT send money to AF1 EUROPE.AF1 EUROPE no longer exists
because the guys running it stole the Fans and the Bands money and disappeared.
Anyone sent in money to AF1 Europe, the should contact AF1 US, or send
complete details to the aerosmith-fans mailing list.

HISTORY:
[Joe notes: I like Flourines history although I have to add They met and started
out in Sunapee, NH. They worked a cool bar called "The Barn" and did local frats
and even played my high school before moving south. They charged 200 bucks for
the night and I have a friend that remembers Steven calling one day very excited
that he was making 150 bucks a week!]
Ok, way back in 1971, there was this little band that had
just gotten together a little while ago, playing this gig at this
little club in NY called Max's Kansas City. Well, there was this
BIG dude there named old Clive Davis... He looked at them and
said: "I'm gonna make you a star. Juss the way you are!" :) And with all his
style, he could see in their eyes, that they was goin on trial, and it was
No Surprize when he signed them up to record their first album with Columbia
records. Aptly titled "Aerosmith", the name of the band, named so
because "it was the only thing that nobody hated." So anways,
they released this album in 73, and went on tour. And so they
toured. And moved to Boston. And toured. And took a shitload of
drugs. And toured. And toured. And released Get Your Wings in 74.
And toured. And released Toys In the Attic in 75. And toured. And
had hit singles for Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way. And toured.
And became famous. And toured. And became rich. And toured. And
took more drugs. And... you get the picture. Rocks was released
in 76 and it was, some say, their hugest album ever. It's the
left nipple album - for those of you familiar with Aerosmith's career
know that it's shaped like a woman's chest :) (more on this later). They
move progressively forward from 73 to 76, and then begin to decline.
The constant touring and continual drug use begins to take its
toll on the band. Draw The Line, released in 77, was a good
album, but a step down from Rocks. Things really begin to slide,
and with a lot of bad karma and spilled milk, the band breaks up
in 1979, with guitarist Joe Perry leaving to pursue a solo
career. The album Night In The Ruts, ominously referred to as
"the album that broke the band," is finally released, and
Aerosmith struggles on, only to lose their other guitarist, Brad
Whitford, who joins up with one Derek St Holmes to record an
album in 81. Aerosmith hits an all-time low, with drug use at an
all-time high, and lead singer Steven Tyler in the hospital with
a severed heel from a motorcycle accident. They trudge along and
find two replacement guitarists, Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay, and
release Rock In A Hard Place in 82. Joe in the meantime releases
3 albums with his band, The Joe Perry Project.
To make a long, long story short, fortunately our treasured
Bad Boys from Boston realized that they was Too Bad and had
forgotten where to Draw The Line. They started on the road to
recovery and got back together in 1984. The reunited Aerosmith
goes on a celebratory "Back In the Saddle" tour, and then sit
down to record a new album. They switched to Geffen records and
became a new band, with a new first album, Done With Mirrors.
This didn't do so well on the charts but was an important step
for the Boys, who were working their way through rehab and other
such nightmares. Thus the second upward trend begins, and
Aerosmith officially returns to the limelight with their 1987
release, Permanent Vacation. With a little help from one rap band
RUN DMC, who covered Walk This Way and invited Steven an Joe
along for the ride. Now having the new realm of music video to
explore, Aerosmith turns to show the world that they aren't
through yet, and wont be for a while.
Finally kicking the drug habit completely, they release the
Pump album in 1989, another huge success. With 4 hit singles in
the top 20, and the amazing creativity and originality of their
videos, anyone who didn't like Aerosmith before got a grip real
fast. Which, of course, brings us to their latest release, Get A
Grip. Which is the right nipple album, and, hopefully, this
analogy will soon be no good, because the Boys have signed with
Sony for another two or three more albums! Considering the phenomenal
success of Get A Grip, and the endless possibilites of the band's
potential now that they are out of their own way, we should be expecting
even (Steven) more (Joe) terrific stuff from them in the future! Cuz you
know - it's the same old story, never get a second chance for a dance to
the top of the hill... unless you're Aerosmith! :)
