The Result:
A live EP of 7 songs (approximately 30 minutes total)
that were each created, written, and recorded within the same night. The songs were taped over a series of weekends during the fall semester of 1993 in WILY 90.1 studios at Purdue University.
The songs were, in order of being recorded:
Off The Wall
Wack
It's Gettin' Funky
Bring It On
Alright
Don't Ya Dare Laugh
Crazy 8's
We liked "It's Gettin' Funky" so much, we revised it a little bit and put it on my 4th album, New Day. I also liked some of my verses in "Bring It On", so I revised that and recorded it as "Bring It Strong" (without Rob), also on New Day. "Off The Wall" used the same beat as the song I would later record as "One, Two" on New Day, but with completely different lyrics and structure. Basically... we were both just looking for something to do, and being that neither of us really enjoyed consuming mass quantities of alcohol, we took to the studio. I kinda cajoled Rob into writing some lyrics and once he got into it, he came up with some hillarious stuff. ["It's Gettin' Funky" is a gem.] We'd re-do the song if we really fucked up, but we pretty much went with the first take that we could make it through. It was a blast... listening to the tape now brings back a flood of good memories... mountain dew... Mad Mushroom pizza... the grill... Rob's stanky old hat... aww yeah. :-)
Sadly, these songs were lost in the fire of 2001. However, a dub of "Off The Wall" did manage to make it through, courtesy of Jay Wells and a mix tape I made him in '99, which also included a version of Kriss Kross' "Jump" that Rob and I recorded at Cedar Point during the summer of '93. Both of these will end up as bonus tracks on the CD versions of the OB albums.
"...I don't know what it means, and I don't eat beans... when I'm rollin', I just lean... in my 19-90 Grand Am... and when I roll through the streets, I just jam..." - Robby G, It's Gettin' Funky
