The Songs : She Looked At Me

*Finished* 7/99
Music (1/99, 7/99) Words (2/98)

I used to know a girl, who said that she loved me
she said she'd never go, but then she left me
I told her I would stay...
but she just looked at me and then she looked away

"I love the way you hold me," that's what she said
turned around and ran away, yeah that's what she did
I tried to ask her why...
but she just looked at me and then she said goodbye

When she looked at me
I thought I could conquer the world
and when she put her arms around me
my heart would unfurl
she was all I ever needed to be...
when she looked at me

The most that I could give her, I already have
she took it and she wasted it, like it was so bad
there's nothing I could say...
'cause she just looked at me and then she walked away

When she looked at me
I thought I could conquer the world
and when she put her arms around me
my heart would unfurl
When she looked at me
I thought I could conquer the world
and when she put her arms around me
my heart would unfurl
and if she asked me to crawl, I'd put my knees on the floor...
why won't she look at me, anymore?

Background:
Music: This was the first song I wrote with the intention of putting music to it when I got my guitar. I had a melody in my head of how it should go, I just needed to sit down and figure out some chords for it. I very, very slowly began to work out some chords for the song in late January '99. Finally, more work was done in July... an actual riff for the verses (and I dig it!). It's got the chorus worked on back in January... some bridges were added and boom! It's done! The new music has slightly altered the arrangement... its more uptempo now, a little funky. Originally it was meant to be kinda sappy... but fuck that. heh. This is a short song, only about 3:00 or so (and only that since I threw in an extra chorus at the end). It was finally finished after *only* 17 months. Sheesh.
Lyrics: The words themselves are very much based on an experience I had with a girlfriend who had broken up with me after telling me she was in love with me. (One month after - I'll let you guess who). The quotes in the lyrics are all too real. Actually, I was probably more bitter than the lyrics sound, but not quite as devestated as they sound, also. Gotta have a little extra drama. ;-)
