'The Face' was the alias of the cruel Nazi Colonel Eisen. He earned his nickname after a Jew in Poland's Warsaw Ghetto hurled a homemade bomb at him. Horribly scarred on one side of his face, Eisen was forced to wear an iron half-mask. He became Gauleiter, or military commander, of the Warsaw Ghetto. After his men managed to gas and capture the Invaders, The Face found unusual ways to torture them. However, Polish Jew Jacob Goldstein was not about to let the Invaders become Eisen's slaves. He became The Golem, and stormed Colonel Eisen's fortress to free them. The Golem eventually managed to follow The Face to the top of the Castle, where he was trying to escape with Captain America's shield.
The Golem cornered The Face, and stood motionless and speechless as Eisen pathetically begged for his life. Unimpressed and determined to uphold justice, the Golem simply knocked Colonel Eisen off of the castle to his death.
