June 29, 97

This week, Savage Garden enjoy more and more amazing achievments on the charts. Firstly, looking overseas, their second single "To The Moon & Back" is starting be released world-wide, to follow up their widely successful "I Want You" debut single. "To The Moon & Back" is at number 4 in New Zealand and a U.S. debut shouldn't be too far away. Back home, and the chart records keep tumbling for the duo in their early twenties from Brisbane, Queensland. Savage Garden's debut self-titled album has been charting for 13 weeks, gone quadruple platinum, and spent 12 of those charting weeks at number one. Not only that, their debut single was the biggest selling Australian made single of 1996, and their last two singles both went to number one and achieved platinum sales accreditation. You could perhaps be forgiven for thinking that the fourth single off their album, "Break Me, Shake Me", shouldn't chart that well. After all, their first three singles were runaway successes and this new single is lifted off an album that has been selling by the truckloads for three months now. However, they defy traditional chart trends as "Break Me, Shake Me" crashes into the charts right up at number 7 this week. This gives Savage Garden two singles in the top 10. However, even more remarkably, Savage Garden have three singles in the top 50. The records don't stop there for Savage Garden! "To The Moon & Back" is currently at number 47 after a mammoth 32 weeks in the charts. Only three other singles in Australia have spent longer than 32 weeks in the top 50 in the last 10 years of chart history.
