"Pennywise" is an evil clown from the Stephen King book, "It". The clown can look into people's souls and turn into their worst fears. The only way to stop Pennywise is to confront your fear. Pennywise, the band, are from Hermosa Beach, CA, a small beach community that is the birthplace of other notorius punk bands Black Flag, Descendents, and the Circle Jerks. Pennywise play fast, aggressive So. Ca. hardcore with a positive message.

Pennywise lineup: Jim Lindberg-Vocals; Byron McMackin-Drums; Fletcher Dragge-Guitar; Jason Thirsk-Bass; Randy Bradbury-Thirsk's replacement on Bass.

Official Statement From Pennywise: On July 29th, Jason Thirsk, the original bass player, songwriter & founding member of Pennywise died of what is considered to be a self-inflicted accidental gunshot wound. Although he was not performing with the band recently, his spirit was always with us & we hoped for him to return to the line-up soon. Jason's positive & uplifiting lyrics are what defined our band, and attracted fans to Pennywise all over the world. We loved him very much & he will be greatly missed.

Pennywise bassist Jason Thirsk was found dead of a gunshot wound in the stomach. The body of the bassist/songwriter, who had recently parted ways with the popular hardcore punk band, was discovered in the backyard at his Hermosa Beach home by his girlfriend on Monday evening (July 30). Police believe it was a suicide. Thirsk had been depressed since leaving Pennywise. His reason for leaving the band was because he didn't like to tour, but according to Epitaph, he was still considered a member of the band.
