The band started in 1986 as Kompania Karna. It was then a punk band, very soon to gain huge popularity on the Polish underground scene. In 1988 the band recorded and released their first studio material Why So Much Hate, very popular with orthodox punk rockers. However, their music was gradually shifting and hard-core was the word.
In December 1990 the band began a new life under the name of Schizma. Despite accusations of "treason" from the old fans, Schizma remained on the independent scene. With the help fo intensive touring and more releases (tapes Live in Torun 1991, The Last Scene 1992, an EP The First Scene 1993, a CD and tape Energy 1993, all distributed by indie labels) Schizma becomes one of the country's top HC / Punk bands.
Winter 1993 brings about another turn for the band. A new guitarist joins, the old singer leaves, the music becomes harder and heavier, inspired by NYC hard-core. Schizma goes on playing gigs and recording their new material. Urban Depressions comes out by the end of 1994 on tape and CD. It contains a mixture of traditionnal and modern notions in hard-core, plus covers of classic tracks from Agnostic Front and Cro-Mags. In February 1995 the band records another live tape, released later this year.
Current line-up : Pestka (vocals), Maciek (guitar), Luki (bass), Monter (drums). Long time cooperators are the Kornak brothers : Model (manager) and Martin (lyrics). Apart from the music, Schizma considers the message to be of extreme importance. The lyrics, at times poetic, at times progressive and down-to-earth, touch upon the dark dimensions of modern civilisation and society. The band supports alternative activities (Kanaloza zine, ecology, Animal Liberation Front, Radical Anti-Nazi Movement, Never Again Zine, local militant groups).
Schizma is one of Poland's longest running and most active hard-core bands. They played in Germany, France and Belgium, supported bands in the likes of Sick of it All, Youth Brigade, and MDC.
Schizma means no compromise, integrity and pure, real hard-core.
