The Offspring got quite a surprise when it played London's Brixton Academy on Saturday the 19th, as a fan almost turned a stage dive into a swan dive. The incident occurred after the band encouraged fans to rush the stage. Apparently one fan took them at their word and jumped from the second-floor balcony, falling squarely on the stage.

According to London press, the male fan - who refused to give his name - splattered himself on the stage like a bug and is lucky to be alive. One onlooker remarked, "It's probably the worst thing I've ever seen at a concert." (We guess he never had to sit through one of the Spice Girls' sets.) The injured fan was taken by ambulance to St. Thomas Hospital in London, where he was treated for a broken collarbone and cracked ribs before he was released.

The band said it was "deeply upset by the accident," but that's nothing compared to how the young fan's parents feel. As for the venue, it was panicked by the fall and is currently reviewing its insurance policies, and has considered beefing up its security force, installing hand rails, and placing a net over the balcony - just in case another fan attempts something like this.
