Offspring's Dexter Talks About Sharing The Wealth
June 27 [10:00 EDT] -- The Offspring's Dexter Holland hopes the foundation that he and Jello Biafra recently founded will spread the wealth among deserving charities.
As we first reported on June 16, Holland and the former Dead Kennedys/current Lard frontman drew inspiration from the Grateful Dead's Rex Foundation in forming their own F.S.U. Foundation.
Biafra says that the organization is designed to counter "the selfish, mean-spirited attitude being encouraged in America today," while Holland's explanation is a bit more lengthy.
"With the F.S.U. Foundation, which is something that Jello and I put together, we wanted to create a place where bands of all kinds of different musical styles could get together and show that they give a shit and can make a difference," Holland recently told MTV News.
As we previously reported, the Offspring will put their money where Holland's mouth is by playing three benefit shows next week.
"For the first shows that are coming up, there's gonna be three of them in a couple weeks, and the proceeds of those shows are going to go to AIDS Project L.A. and Amnesty International, as well as some lesser known groups like the Trees Foundation and Poor People's United Fund," Holland said. "We kinda like the idea of being able to help not only groups that are well known like Amnesty International which are definitely worthwhile, but also some groups that maybe normally would get skipped over by some of the charity benefits and those kinda things."
Offspring will play F.S.U. fundraisers in Pomona, California, on Monday, Fresno on Tuesday, and Santa Cruz On Wednesday.
