After a year and a half of steadily growing popularity of the heels of their first Epitaph release, Ignition the Offspring have recently been vaulted into the faces and brains of young America. With their second release, Smash, the band promises to cement themselves permanently into the punk rock hall of fame.
On their latest outing, the Offspring utilize their intrinsic musical talents to launch punk rock into new orbits, meanwhile mastering the sounds of ska (check out "What Happened to You?") and exploring vato-funk with their hit single "Come Out and Play." With influences stemming from early pioneers of the Southern California hardcore sound, such as the Adolescents and TSOL, the Offspring decided again to team with Thom Wilson, the eminent producer of that venerable era..
Hailing from the Republican stronghold of the nation, Orange County, California, it's no wonder the Offspring's brand of rebellious punk rock appeals to the disenchanted youth of suburban America. Topical lyrics ranging from gang violence and LA freeway shootings to self-awareness and fast living, verbalize the angst and frustration of growing up in a stifling, conservative environment.
Throughout the last year and a half, the Offspring have appeared in numerous surf / skate / snow board videos, which has contributed drastically to their new found notoriety. In great demand by these various scenes, the Offspring were invited to play the awards ceremony of one of the world's largest snow board contests, "King of the Hill," in Valdez, AK, and have played several shows in support of video releases such as the surf classics Momentum I and Momentum II.
After 3 world-wide tours, playing with such artists as NOFX and Pennywise, the Offspring are now preparing their own full-scale assault on the nation--don't let this year's tour pass you by.
