History
of Dangerous Hours
I guess it was about February of 1996 when I decided to give The MUSIC FORUM a new name. The other DMB sites had something relating to the band in their name, but my site had, I must admit, a pretty dry and boring name. It took me a while to actually decide upon a new title. I didn't want it to be a name of one of their songs, but something a little more obscure.
After looking through the many lyrics pages on the Tripping Billies site, I discovered a name that sounded interesting, and kind of cool at the same time (well at least I thought so). I obviously chose the name Dangerous Hours which are lyrics taken from the song "Help Myself." (which can be found on the SCREAM 2 Movie Sountrack)
I thought this title would fit well in to my site because it is kind of a dark name, and I have always been fond of the dark backgrounds and colors when it comes to designing my web page. I even found this cool, animated fire icon that I used for a while, but then I though that maybe I was going a little bit overboard.
It
seemed that once I changed the name, more people began visiting the site.
I added a some frames to the site (when I finally figured them out), put
in some new pictures and the page was looking a lot better than it was
when I first started.
After changing the name and putting the frames up, I thought the site had once again returned to being static and kind of boring when it came to the page appearance. I had noticed that the best sites were really developing some great graphics. My site had some good pictures, but none that actually said Dangerous Hours on them or had combinations of photos put into one picture (i.e. the graphic at the top of this page). I knew that to make my site more professional, these type of graphics had to be created.
I downloaded
Paint Shop Pro and started making some new graphics.....just kind of messing
around with the different fonts and other features the program offered.
I think the site looked much better after I started using these new graphics
and I made a point of changing them often. I like to visit sites
to notice how much they change (new features, photos, page format) so that
is why I like to change the look of my page often. Things get boring
if you don't.
In
about March 1997, Jeremy Bingaman e-mailed me with the idea of Dangerous Hours
and DMBnet
becoming sistersites. I had always really liked his site and I felt
he had the best graphics and most innovative ideas of any DMB site. We
teamed up, linking back and forth between the sites, and creating a sistersite
page, where browsers could access the best parts of each site from one
location. This has worked out great, expanding the popularity of
both of our sites. In the early part of 1998 Jeremy Bigaman decided to stop maintaining his DMBnet site. He decided to use his talents in other areas, which includes his own personal website. I would like to thank him for the great partnership we had for a year or so. With the dissappearance of DMBnet, The
DMB Mailing List Website has become the premiere site for up-to-date accurate news on the band.
