OASIS LIVE BY THE SEA

Recorded live at Southend Cliffs Pavillion-April 17, 1995

"At five in the morning, lagged up in his Southend hotel room, Noel Gallagher turned to a friend and said, 'It was only a year ago when we put out our first single!' It was a statement that forcefully brought home the huge phenomenon that is oasis. Feisty, contrary, belligerent, highly talented and music fixated to an almost unhealthy degree, Noel's uniquely crafted songs, aligned with Liam Gallagher's inimitable vocals and a devastating wall of sound, have swept all before them, rightfully triggering a huge response from those who know the real deal when it comes along. And that's only the records. On stage, oasis give it even more energy, attitude and vision, their constant touring('Who the fook wouldn't want to do this for the rest of their lives?' Noel once innocently asked) turning them into one of the most exciting and dynamic attractions around. Free to do whatever they want, this film captures in motion the best thing to have happened to British Pop in a long while. The '90s start here.

Well, I've had "Oasis Live By the Sea" for a while, and I have to say that it is very good(in my opinion). However, it's not quite as good(in my opinion) as "Oasis...There and Then". I think the camera shots and sound are better on "There and Then".

Also, because I got "There and Then" before "Live By the Sea", I noticed some differences between the shows. They are(in no particular order):

  • There isn't any interview footage in "Live By the Sea".
  • There are more close-up audience shots in "Live By the Sea".
  • When Liam does play his tamborine in "Live By the Sea", he concentrates on it more than when he plays it in "There and Then".
  • There are more stares made into the crowd(by Liam) on "Live By the Sea". Liam stares into the crowd a lot in "There and Then", but they aren't blank stares. On "There and Then" it always seems as though he's looking for someone.
  • Tony McCarroll does the drumming on "Live By the Sea". It was filmed on April 17, 1995; which was just a few weeks before he was fired. I don't think he does that bad of a job Live By the Sea.
  • The show is an indoor one, and even though there is a large audience, I think that this show has more of a "club" feel to it, rather than a "stadium" feel.
  • Reviews of each song (like my "There and Then" review) will be available soon. Until then here's the set list for "Live By the Sea":
