Discography
Here is the discography as it appeared in How To Make Enemies And Irritate People. I put a * before parts that I have added in.
SCREECHING WEASEL (Underdog 1987, licensed to Shigaku Trading, London 1987) 1,000 pressed in U.S., 2,000 pressed in England. Our first LP, it has 27 songs that were mostly written when I was 16 years old and in a drug treatment center in the woods of Maine. It's out of print and it's staying that way due to two important facts: 1. The original bass player wants too much mone and 2. It stinks something awful.
BOOGADABOOGADABOOAGDA
(Roadkill 1988/Lookout 1992) This fucking thing has been on way
too many record labels. It was original released on a Chicago
label called Roadkill which was run by myself, Jughead and a rich
kid named Dave Best. 2,000 vinyl copies were initially pressed
and sold, and according to Dave, the second pressing only
consisted of 176 copies (he needed to fill up extra jackets
laying around or something). It was licensed to a British label
called Wetspots w/ a cover showing a skinhead paper boy flipping
the bird to some old coot. This is a beautiful, full-color album
cover but unfortunately only 1,000 LP's were pressed (and we
never got paid). We agreed to let Roadkill re-press it, but
somehow a guy Dave was working w/ sold the tapes to a huge German
company called EFA and 2,000 more copies were pressed (half on
vinyl, half on CD). For all I know, they're still pressing them.
The record label is listed on the jacked at Nate Starkman and Son
or something. Bottom line: it's an illegal, pirated recording and
we never saw a dime. The only significant difference between it
and the original pressing is that it is the re-mixed version (as
was the Wetspots release) and the cover is a disgusting yellow
and blue (in contrast to the original black on hot pink cover). I
don't own a copy of this version and I hope you don't either. It
is now on Lookout, the album cover is now changed to green, the
CD and vinyl version have a different weasel head rendition (by
the same artist), and the back cover features a photo of the band
nude in a bowling alley, which was part of a limited issue (200
copies) "poster" that came w/ the first pressing on
Roadkill. Latest word is that it's been pirated yet again, this
time by Wetspots' distributor, Southern. (26 songs, LP $8, Cass
$7, CD $9ppd from Lookout/P.O. Box 111374/Berkeley CA/94712)
PUNKHOUSE (Limited Potential 1989, 500 hand numbered copies/No
Budget 1991, 500 hand numbered copies, no sleeves/Selfless 1993 -
still in print) Ok, it originally came out on Limited Potential
and was financed by Roadkill. It was the only non-compilation
release that Brian Vermin played on, and it was Vapid's first
record w/ the band (we called him Sewercap back then, and he was
our bassist. I was the second guitarist.) Our cut of the first
pressing was a few copies and Mike Potential's bass guitar case.
Mike has since gone on to make good dough selling his bands to
major labels, but Punkhouse was his first release. I re-pressed
it myself in 1991 because so many people were asking about it. I
couldn't afford to do covers, but I re-did the lyric sheet and
numbered the records on the labels themselves. The latest
pressing has a different photo on the cover than the original
(though it's from the same session so it's hard to tell). It's a
six song EP and available in fine stores everywhere (at least
until it goes out of print again).
"Kamala's Too Nice/I Wanna Be A
Homosexual" from the WHAT ARE YOU
POINTING AT? 10" compilation (Very Small Records, 1989,
1,000 copies - re-pressed on Very Small's CD only comp. entitled
FOUR-TWO PUDDING- I don't know how many of those were pressed but
both are outta print.) The original versions of those two songs,
w/ the same line-up as PUNKHOUSE, recorded in Berkeley along
with...
"Slogans" from
the THERE'S A FUNGUS AMONGUS 7" comp. on What the Fuck?
Records, 1989. This disc was, I believe, limited to 1,000 copies,
featured all Chicago bands and was released by Martin Sorrondegy,
who has taken photos for most of our album jackets and is not the
singer in LOS CRUDOS.
"This Bud's For Me"
from the THEY DON'T GET PAID, THEY DON'T GET LAID, BUT BOY DO
THEY WORK HARD 12" comp. on Maximum RockNRoll Records, 1989.
I have no idea how many were pressed, but it's now out of print.
That's fine w/ me; the tune is a joke. The rest of the album
sucks just as bad. This was our usual `89 line-up, w/ the
addition of a local session musician on lead guitar. He also
played on...
"Teenage Slumber Party"
from the ACHTUNG CHICAGO 12" comp. on Underdog, 1990. This
was the first release on Underdog after we changed it over to a
collective (me and Juggy quit soon afterwards). The album stinks.
Our song is also on the CD version of "WIGGLE".
MY BRAIN HURTS (Lookout, 1991) This was the album that marked our
comeback after a year and a half breakup. It's a 14 song album
and some of the best stuff we've done. I went back to my original
position as just plain singer (I only played guitar on about a
fourth of the songs on BOOGADA and none from our first album) and
we did a short tour ending in California, where this was
recorded. Vapid moved to second guitar and we added Danny Panic
on drums and Dave Naked on bass. It's a fucking great album and
is available from Lookout. (see above).
PERVO-DEVO (Shred of Dignity, 1991) This is a three song EP that
was recorded at the M.B.H. sessions. Includes a new version of
"I Wanna Be A Homosexual",
an original about creepy girls and a Patsy Cline cover. Came w/
the last issue of my old fanzine, Teen Punks
In Heat. I believe 2500 copies were
originally pressed. 450 copies were repressed in 1992 and quickly
sold out. The re-release is identical to the original, only the
label name changed from Shred of Dignity to Outpunk.
WIGGLE (Lookout, 1992) This 14 song album actually came out in
January of 1993, but it was SUPPOSED to be released in November
of `92 and that's the way the copyrights read. We traded in Dave
Naked for Johnny Personality of The Vindictives, and overall, the
playing and production is much better than on MY BRAIN HURTS.
There are some problems though; On the initial vinyl pressing,
there are some totally annoying cymbal hisses (it's since been
remixed for vinyl), but more importantly, the album just doesn't
work. I like a lot of the songs, but it doesn't grab ya and shake
the piss outta ya like it should. The vocals in particular are
horrible, and there's entirely too much instrumental fucking
around. That aside, there are some good tunes on the album, they
just don't all fit together so well. The CD Has three extra
tracks. (see Lookout info above)
SNAPPY ANSWERS TO STUPID QUESTIONS (Selfless, 1992) A five song
live recording of our on-air performance at WFMU in New Jersey
during our January `92 tour. My voice is shot and the sound
quality ain't so great. The EP was limited to 1500 copies and is
sold out.
HAPPY, HORNY, GAY AND SASSY (Selfless, 1992) A one-sided, three
song EP that was from the same session as the above disc. It was
just as lame, and limited to 300 copies. Naturally, it's out of
print. The cool thing about it is the graphic blowjob scene that
we got from Matt at Outpunk.
RAMONES (Selfless, 1992) It was Screeching Weasel covering the
entire first Ramones LP. Some people hate it, some people like
it. I'm ambivalent. It's nothing special, but it did really bring
the band together at a time when we felt were were running out of
gas; we had a blast recording the thing. It was limited to 1700
copies (1400 black vinyl, 300 white) and 300 were re-pressed in
1993 w/ silk screened covers. Way outta print.
SCREECHING WEASEL/PINK LINCONS (VML Records, 1993) This was a
split EP w/ us and the Lincolns. One of our songs is on the CD
version of "WIGGLE" ("Going
Home"). The other is pretty decent. The
Lincolns' side rocks. Limited to 1500, it's long gone.
RADIO BLAST (Underdog, 1993) A two song EP featuring a coupla
outtakes from the "WIGGLE" sessions. This one got mixed
reviews, but I think it's pretty solid, and the artwork is
fucking great. The first pressing was limited to 2,000 copies and
was re-pressed on burgundy vinyl.OUT OF PRINT!
"Soap Opera" from the FALLEN UPON DEAF EARS 10" EP (Skullduggery, 1994) Featured a bunch of bands, including Nausea, Dogfight, and The Vindictives and sold for only $3 ppd. OUT OF PRINT!
"Chicago"
from the CHAIRMAN OF THE BORED album (Grass, 1994). A really
lousy double CD put out by a Dutch East offshoot. You can find
our tune on the Born Against/Screeching Weasel split (CD version
only).
YOU BROKE MY FUCKING HEART EP (Lookout, 1993) Four songs, easily
our best EP $4 ppd from Lookout.
ANTHEM FOR A NEW TOMMOROW (Lookout, 1993) An 18 song album.
Vapid's back on bass and I'm back on second guitar. Personally, I
think this is one of best things we've done. (LP/CD/cass from
Lookout)
SCREECHING WEASEL/BORN AGAINST EP (Lookout, 1994) A split EP w/
each band taking each other's lyrics and writing music for it.
The B.A> side is better and it's really more of a novelty item
than anything else. The CD version includes our version of "Chicago"
and B.A. doing the Jeffersons theme song (EP, $4ppd, CDEP $6 ppd
from Lookout).
"Celena" from
the IT'S A PUNK THING, YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND 12"
(Shakefork). An okay tune on a record full of local bands. OUT OF
PRINT!
"My Friends Are Getting Famous"
from the PUNK USA comp. (CD/Cass/LP from Lookout). A 15 band
comp. put together by yours truly. Also features the Queers,
Jawbreaker, Moral Cruz, Pink Lincolns, face to face, the
Vindictives, etc.
"SUZANNE IS GETTING MARRIED B/W WAITING FOR SUSIE EP
(Lookout, 1994). A 2 song single commemorating the marriage of
Maximum RocknRoll's Suzzanne Bartchy and AK Distribution's Ramsey
Kanaan. The B-Side is a tune that got voted of Wiggle and was
re-done w/ our last lineup.
HOW TO MAKE ENEMIES AND IRRITATE PEOPLE (Lookout, 1994) Same
prices as the rest of [their] Lookout albums.
KILL THE MUSICIANS (Lookout, 1995) Compilation of some of the out
of print Weasel stuff as well as some outtakes and live stuff. It
was original y going to be available on CD only - now we don't'
know. We're still sorting out what will be on this album so it
should be released in late `94 or early `95.
