The Songs Are Interpreted As Follows(according to me of course, but if you want you can MaIl ME your opinion, and I'll consider it)
CYCLE I THE HIEROPHANT
Irresponsible Hate Anthem:- This song is a condemnation of American Society, and the people who thrive on it. He displays the same concepts as the intro to Rock 'n' Roll Nigger on Smells Like Children EP. The concept is that Marilyn is the fruit of America's evil, and America hates him for what he became, even when it knows that it's her (America's) fault. Marilyn doesn't seem to understand this and answers hate with hate.
Beautiful People:- This song is a description of the way you need to survive in capitalistic society. (CAUTION: THIS SONG HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH PHYSICAL BEAUTY ALTHOUGH IT MAY REFER TO IT!!!). Marilyn argues that it's your guts(or balls) that determine your success in society. We are living in a capitalistic society...and that's the way it is!!! Fascism is the only enemy to this way of life!!
Dried up, Tied and Dead to the World:- This song is quite weird. In it, Marilyn is addressing an individual who seems to be very greedy and is able to do anything to achieve its goals ("cut off all of your fingers trade them in for dollar bills") and is somewhat of a parasite, not believing in give-and-take, but just TAKE. To this person, Marilyn is giving "promises" of love which end into emptiness when he emphasizes that he'll fulfil them only when not conscious of his actions, but still this person seems to have won its cause when Marilyn exclaims this eternal commitment in the last phrase- "all dried up and tied up forever all fucked up and dead to the world...". This track can be referred to as an ode to drug use.
Tourniquet:- This song seems to portray a love felt for someone that has been destroyed by the actions of some evil-doers (the flies). This love was treasured and cared for as if it was something very fragile, but is still defiled by "the flies". Marilyn seems to want to take the blame for all this and asks the partner to "take out all her hatred on him". The symbol of the tourniquet is a bit doubtful here, whether it is meant to be a life-saver (a tourniquet can save a life in case of a ruptured artery in a limb), or else a killer (since a tourniquet stops all blood supply from reaching a point in the body). This song is alluded to a dream that Marilyn once had of the creation of a partner for him, made from his own body parts (hair, bone, little teeth...). He cares for this creation of his but reality (the flies) makes sure everything is spoilt for him. However, even though their love can never be, Marilyn keeps her alive through his own existence (since she is made up from his own self), so, he is "her Tourniquet".
Little Horn:- APOCALYPTIC VISION!!!! aaaaaaarrrrrghhh!! This is the theme of this song. It first starts warning people about the danger of the life we are living, because of the spreading disease that is the media (tumor in the TV mouth), advising us to truncate it before it's too late. Visions then start of an atmosphere of chaos in the future where amongst the general confusion arises this monster from "the bottomless pit", referred to as the "Little Horn", which is probably a biblical reference to a Hebrew mythological creature from the Abyss. At this point the world has to get ready for "another star". This star is probably another biblical reference, which is also quoted on the sleeve of this album, in the extract from the book of Revelation, where the Beast casts down a third of the crown of 12 stars that the Virgin Mary was wearing (4 stars, could that be referring to the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse which are believed to bring the apocalypse when they all come to earth? and if so, is Marilyn claiming to be one?). The vision then continues with hell breaking loose, and evil prevailing. There is a warning for people to save themselves but there is quick realization that it is already too late and everyone will now suffer the consequences of their own mistakes.
Cryptorchid:- One of the two most touching tracks of the album (the other is Man that you Fear). This song is the sad tale of a child who is unable to grow up well because of bad rearing (the title itself implies an irregular developement since the medical term 'cryptorchidism' refers to the condition of undescended testes in a child, I know this being a medical student, but also in the lyrics the is the saying of "when a boy is still a worm it's hard to learn the number seven" which means that the child is so vulnerable to the world's evils that it is an almost impossible feat to grow in a perfect way). There are also allusions to child abuse, especially when the child tries to exit this way of life or "looks outside" Marilyn says "I feel my back is changing shape" implying violence done on the child, probably by the father, but although this violence is known to be done and is known to be bad, it is never condemned. The atmosphere then changes, developing into a warm, soothing pan flute sequence by Mr. Manson and mellotron (whatever that is) by Trent Reznor. Then an angelic voice tells us that this time is over, the child has developed, and with this metamorphosis, everything else has to change as well.
Deformography:-
Wormboy:- This track serves to tell the world about the state that we have come to. All this "righteousness" and false puritanism has brought us to a point of total blindness and we have lost value in our true emotions such as love, which is something very special, and therefore we have to reserve it for special people and not disperse it around aimlessly even to people that then repay us with disrespect, thus reducing our love to "mud". Here the Reverend realizes that he is becoming something different, scary, and destructive, but he is accepting it and now that he is changing, something that he wouldn't believe would happen, he will fulfil his fate.
Mister Superstar:- This song is about the idols of today's society. Pornography, venereal diseases, mysticism, music, and childhood role models are ruling the world. Manson summarizes thes idols into one Mr. Superstar and gives him his requests. He starts by praising him and expressing his devotion to him, then he asks for the favours, but he makes it clear that even though he is prepared to do anything for what he wants, if he doesn't get what he wants he will destroy these idols because they will become meaningless.
Angel with the Scabbed Wings:- Here, Marilyn portrays himself as becoming into a sort of beast, but only because of his traumatic past experiences (scabbed wings, rock and roll sores......). It is a kind of thelemic song, portraying the use of drugs as a tool for a sort of transformation into godliness, being able to do whatever one wants. He tells us how powerful and destructive he has become, but warns us that it is a very hard existence, and if one isn't capable of maintaining it, one shouldn't try, you don't want to know the causes and consequences of such a creation, ie the upcoming disintegrator. He can do absolutely ANYTHING, create, destroy, anything, the ultimate existence, the overman.
Kinderfeld:- At first this track perplexed me since it seemed to be just a weird experience, probably from childhood, but then I read certain things which made me think otherwise. This track tells the story of Marilyn's first exposure to sex. Marilyn says that he was first exposed to sex when an elderly relative of his used to retire in the garage with pornogaphic magazines and masturbate, switching on his toy train set to cover up the noise. In the song, when Marilyn witnesses this, he is beckoned not to mention the fact to anyone and to make sure that he keeps his word, he is punished by abuse. However now, the worm that the relative once knew has become the disintegrator, and he describes himself as "the strongest weed" which means that as many times you destroy it, he will come back in greater number and strength. His abuse has just nurtured his hate and made him grow strong. The scared child has now grown to be the nemesis of this cruel destiny and will undertake the mission to destroy whatever he deems to harmful, even if he destroys the whole world as we know in the process.
CYCLE III DISINTEGRATOR RISING
Antichrist Superstar:- Wow! This sure is a power track! Starting with weird background noises, sounding like worried whimpers and squeaks, probably a prediction of the woe that is to come, this is only a brief pause to charge you up before the powerful guitar strokes and the shouts of the people in chorus blow you away! If one is following the developement of the Rev. into something supernatural, here is where he realizes that the metamorphosis is complete and that the 'resetting' of the world is going to start. It first starts with the Rev. declaring that he is a consequence of the state into which today's society has come. He says that he came because people have sort of "wished for hell" in their actions of stupidity and weakness, and have created...the Antichrist Superstar or disintegrator. Now he is here to remedy fo the people's mistakes and nothing can stop him. Whatever is being done to inhibit him from doing his apocalyptic work, only feeds him with more drive to continue. We've seen what is happenning when someone tries to ban Marilyn Manson from doing a concert somewhere. He gets more and more power.
1996:- The steep ascension to power has now reached its peak. The Antichrist Superstar has looked around and saw the shit into which the world has fallen, so he decides to start resetting the world by destroying everything that represents today's society. He goes against every single thing, good and bad, to bring everything to nothingness and be able to start all over again. Although we now start to see a descent in the inertia of the disintegrator because soon things are coming to an end, him included, and hearing the tracks that follow, one confirms this thought.
